Imagine this, you dont have your graphical calculator on you, but you still want to sketch a quadratic graph. How can we do that?

To sketch a quadratic we need three things: The Y intercept, the X intercept and the turning point.

To find the Y intercept, all we have to do is take the value that doesnt come infront of an x, which in this case is negatve four.

To find the X intercepts, we can use the quadratic formula. Lets sub in our values to find our answers of -4, and 1.

Finaly, to find the turning point, we have to complete the square. In this case we'll complete the square to be x plus three over two squared, minus 25 over 4. This means our turning point will be minus three over two, minus 25 over four.

Now lets put it all toghether. Draw a parabola with each part of the curve in the correct quadrant, and now you can label on your values for the y intercept, x intercept and turning point.
