Yeah, Japan was simply too centralized and modern for China at that time.

Honestly considering the fact that china had no navy, a small amount of interwar light tanks purchased from foreign nations, no air force and world war one era infantry equipment and artillery and it was in a civil war, it's embarassing that the japanese could not take more of china, and frankly when framed in that context, to me it makes the idea that if japan joined operation barbarossa they would have won a laughable idea.
