Synchronize Google Calendar and Contacts with Thunderbird, without Addons

In the past I used TbSync to syncronize my Google Account with Thunderbird, both contacts and the calendars. However this stopped working recently. But it is now possible to synchronize your data without needing an additional add-on.
Here is how! We can use iCal/CalDav for the calendars and CardDav for the contacts.

When I installed Thunderbird 102 I got the option to sync contacts and calendars. Your method is helpful for those who didn't take up that option. One issue I have is that I cannot create a Mailing List in the Address Book in Thunderbird, only in the Personal Address Book, but the Personal Address Book doesn't show any contacts.

Thanks for the great video, however, I was disappointed that labels in google contacts were not supported. Do you know of any extension in Thunderbird that supports labels in Google Contacts?

Andy this method does not seem to work now for me. It tries to force you to use CardBook which seems to put on a separate address book and does not show up under the main address book that comes with Thunderbird. Can you advise how to fix this? Thanks for all of your great videos.

Hi Andy. This worked fine a couple of months ago on a pc. I'm now trying to sync on a Macbook Pro M2. When I paste in the link, Google thinks about it, then askes for the email address again and again. Any suggestions? Cheers

Thanks ... this worked when I first installed an older version. I did a clean install of Windows 11 and the contact & calendars showed up when creating account ... just had to click connect. But for some reason with Calendars it would not sync right when I tested. I figured it out that the time zone was wrong to fix that ... Goto>Settings>on left select Calendar ... in the right select the right time zone. If it still does not work ... Goto ... on the right in setting select>General ... scroll down to Language & Appearance>Date and Time Format check Regional setting for local.

Finally got it working after the 2nd try. 1st time it says calendar not writable, although i didn't toggle read only.
