I received a cabin upgrade, a free future cruise of my choice for the same or fewer number of days, a full refund of cruise fare of $15K, and a check for another $15K! Although the $15K refund was immediate, it took the Viking cruise line 4 months to cough up the promised $15K check, and only after I got the state attorney general’s office and my congressman’s office involved!

yes on Princess told us if we postpone it for three weeks they offered us a penthouse and $1600 on board credit. If we did not use it they would give us the extra that we did not use. We surely took that one.

Yep, just this May to Alaska on Princess. We couldn't take the offer because we couldn't reschedule our lives. So we kept our booking.

This is really the first time I’ve heard about cruises being overbooked. I guess a guaranteed cabin isn’t really guaranteed.

A Week before the Cruise !!??? What the HELL ???

Why are they described as “guaranteed cabins” in the first place? Considering they are in reality prone to being the complete opposite.

If you sell more than you have to sell you should be prosecuted and imprisoned for fraud. Same with airlines.

I haven’t ever been asked to move a cruise because of overbooking, but I have been asked to change flights because of overbooking. If the offer is one I can live with, I’ll change it. But I’m retired and don’t have to worry about time off etc.

No I haven't but that is one of the many reasons why I will never book a guaranteed cabin.

Since I’m retired I could possibly do that but my husband is still working and he would not be able to change his time off so easily.

No, gladly we have never received such an offer.
We would be extremely pi****off!
Talking about Alaska, it is not only a domestic flight for us - we live in Europe and getting to the US or Canada, where those cruises start and end is quite hefty in airfare.

How do you overbook a cruise ship when there is a finite number of cabins in said cruise

“Guaranteed cabins” means you haven’t reserved a specific cabin. You saved money by letting the cruise line give you whatever cabin was left over. Sometimes no cabins are left when they get to you.

I'm going on this exact sailing this Sunday. I booked over a year ago and I picked my exact room number. I haven't heard from Royal, does that mean I'm safe?

I would be overjoyed to get that offer. I would ssk them if they would move me over to the Celebrity ship sailing that same week at the same fare.

The solution to overbooking in travel is simple. Customer pays 100% in advance and the fare is non changeable and non-refundable. Then, there is no need to overbook.

1) never book a guarantee
2) never book an old clunker like Brilliance of the Seas

Yeah unfortunately when they did it with us it was not at a good time for us so I had to turn it down and just demand a refund.

In this day & age, bookkeeping should be a lot better with today’s cruise lines, airlines how do you overbook do frequently? 🤦🏼‍♀️
