Solar Eclipse: Timelapse videos capture surreal moments of darkness during celestial event

A solar eclipse swept across parts of Canada, the US, and Mexico on Monday, drawing millions of people to witness the rare celestial event.

The eclipse caused a day-to-night transition as it cast a shadow along its "path of totality". Timelapse videos captured the moments of darkness during the eclipse, leaving viewers in awe of the beauty of the universe.

While the next solar eclipse is expected to pass through Western provinces in 20 years, the phenomenon only occurs in any given location once every 360 years by some estimates.

We didn’t see the eclipse bec it was cloudy where we’re at but the total darkness was unbelievable. It was a beautiful experience. Everyone was celebrating. Happy eclipse 2024 🎉

This was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in person. Videos and pictures truly do not do it justice

Nothing brings people together like an act of nature.

Saw it in Arlington, TX today. No use trying to capture the totality in a video or phone; it simply can't do the experience justice. I was blown away.

The time lapse makes it seem like it went pitch black, but that's only because the cameras they're using don't have auto exposure on and the exposure is set pretty low already. It got dark in totality, but not pitch black. Closer to late sunset when the sun has just gone past the horizon in terms of darkness.

But the moon in totality was amazing. No photo or video can do it justice. Like looking at a giant black marble above the sky obscuring a massive fire at infinity. You get a good sense of the depth and scale of the moon and sun by it.

To each their own experience. I was observing in Toronto at a park with a large clearing. The partial eclipse started with cloud cover, so when you looked up, the whispiness of the clouds helped create an effect of a transitioning eclipse through my solar eclipse glasses. It happened about six times before we had heavy cloud cover. The sun had a whispy look around it, not unlike the totality eclipse from Niagara Falls. At the maximum, the park lights were turned on as the sensors detected the night-like brightness levels. It got cold, dark, and eerily silent without any animal sounds. In a sense, I did not miss out on any experiences due to the weather. A totally, worthy, bucket list experience.

We were very lucky, a clear blue sky today and a total eclipse from our backyard

I was in almost total darkness. Totally Awsome, saw it from my deck. It got cold, had to put a jacket on. Wish I could have taken better pics, need better camera. LOL. Sad to say I won't be around for the next one.👀

Currently in Toronto, so I was only expecting it to be as dark as twilight. Had the blinds shut anyway because of the cat, but shortly after 3, I saw that it was as dark as 11pm. It was rather cool.

Unless you are using manual settings... you're never going to show how much the brightness actually changed and the speed of the change because your Camera would try to compensate. It went from seeing everything normally to being midnight in seconds! Absolutely amazing! Seeing the moon as a thin white ring in the sky, well... I have an OLED monitor and nothing online shows it with the same feeling as seeing the tiny moon as a ring in real life! I would totally plan a trip somewhere around the world to see something like this again. It's simply that spectacular! SO HAPPY this was nearby in Niagara Falls! What a beautiful place to have this happen!
