PROCHARGER SUPERCHARGER BELT WEAR

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video we discuss and show how much wear a serpentine belt sees on a procharger supercharger. This particular belt has about 3500 Miles on it and has started to squeak. With the added tension needed to drive the supercharger, belt wear is substantially increased and also belt dust in the engine bay compartment has also increased.

Sounds like an idler pulley Bearing going out to me...
Ive had multiple vehicles in my shop with customers replacing belts, until i point out the idler pulley squeaking and occasionally locking up when warmed up, which is what makes that black residue. Just a tip..😎

Hello,
I've spent some time searching for links where can I get a new belt for procharger, but I got no success on this. Do you have any? Very curious about its price.

If you're getting that much dust from the belt, I'm guessing your still getting some slippage. Might not be enough to affect boost levels, but there's still some slippage, and I'd guess its on the crank pulley. Another possibility is misalignment of the pullies, if the alignment isn't 100% it's going to want to walk one way or the other. Check both belt edges for abnormal wear. When changing the belt, I would spray each grooved pulley down with brake cleaner and use a brass bristle brush to remove any embedded dirt and debris from the grooves to help prevent slippage, even the pulley that has the coating. It'd be a bit of work, but should help prolong the life of the belts a bit longer. It wouldn't hurt to clean all the pullies to remove any kind of dirt or contamination from them. Also check all the idlers to make sure the bearings are all good. If one of them has some bind, it could lead to wear on the back side of the belt as well.

I know mine has a separate belt for the supercharger and is also an 8 rib. Maybe that is an option for you? The pulley mounts to the dampener for the supercharger and I have not been having any slippage issues or belt fray.

I am amazed at the lack of information from ati for belt tension procedure on cog Drive. One guy will say 1/4 inch play another says one in another says 1" another says adjust while the engine is hot Etc.. But you can find nothing from ATI about proper tensioning on a cog belt..

Not related to the video but could you make a video on locations under dodge ram where to jack up and safely put on jack stands.

Did you use the stock tensioner to get the belt off or did you unbolt the procharger idler pulley?

Is there any chance to move supercharger a bit forward to make it using its own belt?
So you will reduce general belt lenght, this belt will not affect other pulleys and will have much less tigh on it?
I've seen some videos about that, but definitely it requires hand work and some mount plate modifications, also requires additional pulley to be added on the crank.

Another trick is you need to buy a gator back belt. It's designed when it gets heated it grabs more a lot guys use in their race cars.

Is the dust maybe some of the coating from the drive pulley wearing off?

The coating on the walls on the pulley looks to be fraying the edges of the belt.

I'd say at least 1 of those pullies is locking up

I'm having the same squeal on my Ram but while driving and at idle as well, old belt had less than 36k miles on it and its doing the same on the new belt. Pulley issue maybe?

Also when you check your catch can do you find any watery coffee colored looking oil in it? Its winter here on the east coast and I want to attribute this to the condensation after a cold start, I've done a block leak test and my gaskets are testing for no leaks.

Thoughts?

My vette has same but louder squeal sound

that would be terrible if you had to replace the belt every 5-7000 miles
