Tähe-Lee Liiv (b. 11.11.2003) is currently studying piano with Ivari Ilja and Marrit Gerretz-Traksmann at the Tallinn Music High School and at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Since 2018 she is studying at the Sibelius Academy with Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna, as a student of the Young Musicians International Class. Since 2019 she is attending piano course in Accademia Perosi with Konstantin Bogino. She has attended master classes by Arbo Valdma, Vladimir Ovchinnikov, Dmitri Bashkirov, Victor Rosenbaum, Piotr Paleczny, Dmitri Alexeev and Pavel Nersessian, among others.

Tähe-Lee Liiv has won many national and international piano competitions, including XIII International F. Chopin Competition (III Prize and Special Prize, Narva, Estonia, 2020), the Ninth Competition of Estonian Pianists (I Prize and two Special Prizes, Tallinn, 2019); International Gershwin Music Competition (II Prize, New York, 2019); Concerto Competition ‘Theodor Leschetizky’ for Gifted Young Pianists (I Prize, New York, 2019); Festival ‘Venice Music Masters’ (Guido Alberto Fano Prize, Italy, 2019); International Piano Competition in San Dona di Piave (I Prize; Italy, 2018); “First Mart Saar Competition for Estonian Pianists 2018” (I Prize and Special Prize, Estonia, 2018).

Tähe-Lee Liiv has performed as a soloist with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the New York Camerata Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Pärnu Town Orchestra, Chioggia Symphony Orchestra, Alion Baltic Festival Orchestra, and Virumaa Chamber Orchestra. In addition, she has made guest appearances at the Concertino Praga Festival in the Czech Republic, and the Mänttä Music Festival in Finland. During 2020–21, Tähe-Lee Liiv will perform in the Estonian National Television’s live-broadcast talent show “Klassikatähed”, and she will make a re-appearance with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra at the Estonia Concert Hall. Besides piano repertoire, Tähe-Lee Liiv enjoys studying and performing chamber music.

Lovely, wise lesson from András Schiff. And that is why he is there right now : to help her find and understand Beethoven’s humour. And when you are as young as this child is, of course humour can be learnt. I am 79, and I tell you that one does not have to be grumpy as a septuagenarian :) We can all choose to be something else.
