Scientists have shown that, in order for adult cats to be affectionate with humans, they need to have been handled during the 2- to 7-week period after their birth. This is known as the “sensitive period” of kitten development and has become a crucial point when educating owners and breeders on how to produce adult cats that are happy alongside people in the modern world. A kitten that has not been handled at all by around 8 weeks is unlikely to develop a relationship with humans that will allow handling.

Beamer is a total cuddler! Whenever I sit down, he sees that as an invitation to be on my lap or chest. I got him at 4 mos. old and we did, initially, incorporate treats. He is now 14 years old.

I have a NO cat. He was feral and has big issues with being constrained. What success I may have is done by ignoring him and letting him decide.

I use plastic construction bags to line the litter box. To dispose of the used litter, just pull out the litter in the bag and put it all in another bag that I can tie closed. I know it's a lot of plastic and a bit pricy, but it does make it so much easier for someone who has no place to wash the box. I use folder clips to secure the bag to the box so it won't shift around. Squeex seems to like the arrangement, too.
OH, BTW, she's a champion cuddler. The man who had her until she was old enough for adoption told me that she slept under his chin every night. She continued to do the same with me until she got too big and then, she just moved to my side. She's curled up by my side now waiting for her bedtime snack.

It's difficult to not expect cuddles when you've spent years with an absolute cuddle bug. I've been adopted by a cat who chose to be semi feral by leaving her former home at least twice. She spent the winter with me and I have to respect that she doesn't want to be held and will nip if there's too much petting but she likes to know where I am. It's difficult but she's her own cat.

It becomes more easy if you really want to know your cat by observation. If in winter with snow...track your cat by following his/ her footprints through your/ her neighbourhood. Almost all my cats were lost (no chip) and they came all to me. And yes they al trusted me inmediately (except cat nr 5) He was the cat of my parents that I took home after my last parent died. He tried to get away one time ( a day after my father died). I brought him back he became friends with one of my other cats.

Only the last cat (Sparta) that came to me... hated me, my cats but seemed to like my house. I knew he must have an "owner." And after months I found out who his owners were. I talked to them saying were to find their cat. Their "owners" laughed just that their cat had gained wage.
And by then it was only the beginning. I only had hard catfood and some milk for my own cats.
But even without fresh cat food, he continued to stay here.

And within 2 days Sparta did not return to his home adress.
And yes i warned them how my other cats chose their new "human.' Well they laughed about my claim.
They lost. He did never want to back to their former humans again.
And sure I made some mistakes too, to Sparta.... but at least I he regonized Sparta as one of their cat pack! I protected Sparta from my other cats. And yes he is still living here!

My cat hops up on my desk and just "trust falls" on to me if I lean back. She will lay on my arm and chest and for about 30 seconds and then be like "nope this ain't working imma head out" then repeat the same interaction about 3 minutes later as long as I don't move her, if I do move her she simply lays down in one of the many cat beds she has

Jack was a stray at 9 months old when I took him in. He not only wouldn't cuddle, he was violently aggressive when he felt threatened. Now, four years later, he loves to flip over in my lap when "he chooses" to cuddle. It's been a long and sometimes painful journey but well worth it. ❤ I love him with all my heart.

I got my kitty when she was about three weeks old at a friend's. She turned one in the third week of July. My kitty and her littermates were abandoned by their mother. She chose me--she paid attention to me where the other kitties didn't, but I could tell early on that she wasn't cuddly so I didn't force the issue. She does rub against my legs, nudges my hand with her head, lays with her belly showing, still gets all gnaw-y sometimes, and likes chin and shoulder scritches, and I can also stroker her back. She sits near me sometimes. And sometimes she'll run up and tap my hand or knee and then run off like it's a game of tag, lol. She'll also sit on the top of the chair sometimes when I'm watching tv or crocheting :).
