Canon MP550 Ink Absorber Reset (6C10 Error Code)

A quick video showing you how to reset the counter for the ink absorber/waste ink tank of the Canon MP550 printer. This advice may also be applicable to other Canon printers, but we have been unable to confirm this first hand.

UPDATE: Kind YouTube users have also informed us this advice works for the Canon Pixma MP630, MP540 and MG5220. I hope it worked for you too!

WOW! Thank you so much, this worked for me. I just called Canon and the rep that I talked to said the 6C10 error meant the printer could not be repaired, and he would give me a discount on a new one! I said no thanks, and started googling to see if there was a way to fix it. I am disgusted with Canon, lying that it could not be fixed, they refused to even try anything! Thank you, worked for MP520: Before clicking the RESUME button 4 times, I waited until "Idle" was displayed (in Service Mode). After clicking the RESUME button 4 times and after clicking the POWER button, I waited until the printer printed a page wit the text: "D=000.0 Ps=000.0". Then, the printer remained in the Service mode. I pulled out the power cord to exit the Service mode.

Yes it worked!!! Many thanks to you.The finger choreography could be challenging (even though your instructions are clear) for a few folks but worth the focus. I'd followed all the other guides online (cleaning etc) with it still showing 6C10 error, THIS WAS THE SUCCESSFUL FIX. Thank you....and phew.

The dislikes are probably are the result of the steps not clearing the error code. Canon printers have been going steadily downhill in quality. This latest printer of mine lasted only 2 months before it gets a terminal 6C10 error code that can't be cleared. The ink tanks have been getting smaller and smaller, and the printers crappier and crappier. It's not a reflection on your video, which I found informative and of good quality. It's just the printers people are starting to really dislike.

Leave the cover open, turn off, before it off, hold the reset & Start (color) until it completely off, then turn it back on. it works for me, good luck folks

Worked for my MP568 printer! The button described as the "resume button" in the video is labeled "Stop" on my MP568, but has the same symbol.
