I read a book called "The Fall of Public Man" by Richard Sennett and it changed the way I viewed human nature.

When Robert Greene says he was impressed by a book then it’s a must read.

We all wear masks for different locations and situations, but the idea it can be fun turns it around from being stressful. I like that.

Never pretend to be someone else, always be the honest upright person you are to everyone.

I agree!
It’s dangerous to only see reality.
It will crush you.

This was really eye-opening. I do this myself. I am mostly an introverted homebody, but sometimes I get the impetus to go out. I "doll up" in a way that's very different and lively from how I normally present myself. It's fun! Yet I definitely felt an exhaustion because I tried to make it my norm and I couldn't. And that's okay!

Colloquially in some places it’s called ‘passing yourself’ being polite and affable to blend into and be accepted by nice society, we see this in majority of American movies up to 70/80. Then the turn came where we celebrated the person, which was great but has lead to an over emphasis that we must accept every part of one another. I prefer the old polite way 😊

I think that public realm is now on Instagram, tik tok, twitter, and youtube. It didn’t die. It just moved online, yo.

Thank you, Mr. Green. I always read the books you talk about, so I like the videos you do talking about books you read.

This is why being real in public is so appealing. It's dangerous to not play a character.

What a fantastic book. Never heard anyone reference it before. Robert Greene is an intellectual stud.

There are many parts to all of us that need to be expressed positively

Problem is when the mask started to be an obligation. That’s when the fun stops.

I'm Kenyan and in my country we have a saying that goes "when the stupid (foolish) man/woman becomes intelligent(wise), the intelligent(wise) man/woman is in deep trouble." So Mr. Greene, I love your wisdom, when such wisdom befalls the minds of many it will be very different

For me being yourself all the time and working on being the best yourself is preferred

I believe this longing for just being yourself was embodied by generation X. Millions of us never sold out...many did but there are many many of us who really loves and appreciate authenticity. It can be really confusing for people to "know themselves" if they think they are that "play". So, this said: if/when you know your authentic and genuine emotions and thoughts then you are able to play as much as you want and enjoy it... but when you have no idea and you actually believe you are that"surface" or that"charade" you will be in big trouble because then you will allow others to establish your value. But you can establish that all by yourself. ❤

This book also had a massive impact on me. So insightful, Richard Sennett is an original thinker.
