Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.5 in E♭ Major, Op.73 'Emperor' 2nd Movement, Adagio un poco mosso.

The work popularly known as the 'Emperor Concerto', was Beethoven's last piano concerto. It was written between 1809 and 1811 in Vienna, and was dedicated to Archduke Rudolf, Beethoven's patron and pupil. The first performance took place on 28 November 1811 at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. The epithet of 'Emperor' for this concerto was not Beethoven's own, but was coined by Johann Baptist Cramer, the English publisher of the concerto.

My Father loved Beethoven. This is one of his favourites. When I play it I can see him in my mind head gently moving to the music. I miss you so much dad. This music makes me feel close to you 😭

To me, the most transcendent piece of music ever created on this Earth.

When my son was an infant I would put this on in his nursery at bed time and sit in the dark and watch the moon rise in the window, Now this transports me back to those moments that are gone now forever except in my memories

Listening to this Beethoven makes me cry every time. Remarkable that a man who suffered from his deafness could still write such angelic music. Love you Beethoven.

The most beautiful 2nd movement among all clasical piano concertos

What makes one person have such beauty?
Beethoven's parents and brothers were truly unpleasant and undeveloped in every way.
And along comes this physically tiny, socially awkward man, out of this family who barely supported him .... and we all know the rest ... this is my favourite part of all his concertos. He seems to be pleading to Humanity and God.

That deceptive cadence. Gets me. Every single time. It's like, it's saying "Now I will cry, but I must walk on"

The section at 4:10 always melts my heart. Brings a tear to my eye ever time I hear it. The sound of utopia.

Listening to this somehow gave me a euphoria that art, music, history, religion, science, mathematics, medicine, technology, philosophy, literature, romance, love, law, politics, philanthropy, economics, entrepreneurship, and all aspects of our humanity are interconnected and all are used whether knowing or unknowingly to ultimatelty and collectively advance our species in the end.

It never ceases to amaze me just how utterly timeless the piano solo sounds on the 2nd movement. Often I find when people think of Beethoven they think of some of the other, more famous, symphonies and concertos and this one always feels like a hidden gem. I don't think this beauty gets enough credit but it definitely should.
