I would think that the contractor should be liable for the cost of the plumber for not checking on that plumbers license. As well as pay you to fix the mistake he made.

The person who did the work is always the person who is responsible. The problem is it's not always easy to get them to take responsibility unless you haven't paid. The next person responsible is whoever hired the worker, whether it's the homeowner or another plumber or a general contractor.

Definitely take that contractor or at least threaten a lawsuit. Won't really do much if he doesn't have money. Man, this sucks. This is what really makes me mad and want to do a job for free.

Well. I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s easier than ever to get away with contracting work without the proper licensing. I see it every day on “Nextdoor” and Facebook. I know our state board sees it too but they don’t seem to care. I swear, when I retire or am too broken down to physically plumb anymore, I’m going to try to get a job with the board to go after guys like that.

I would almost rather think it would fall on the contractor. But I would verify if the knowledge was learned from the contractor to the plumber or if it was soly the plumbers lack of understanding and or laziness. But I would also say, please please fix that. Mistakes are made but I sincerely hope if it was lack of knowledge I hope he learned from the mess up of that dumpster fire of illogical construction.
