Nice review... Absolutely love mine. Loved the A229 Pro in my mom's Genesis Coupe. Love it in my Elantra N-Line. At some point we will upgrade the A129 Pro my dad has in his Honda Passport to the A329.

We are a Viofo family and proud of it!!!

Welcome back from CES 2025. Also, the comparison in this video is top-notch. Yet, I wonder if the A229 Pro has already caught up to the A329. I say that because several firmware updates for the A229 Pro have added functionality that was initially an A329 exclusive. Since picture quality these days depends on software rendering, I’m curious if those firmware updates also gave the A229 Pro the same video quality as the A329.

Hi Ben. Thanks for this comparison (once again). I'm glad to know that we share the same thoughts about not seeing the A329 as a worthy upgrade from an A229 Pro. It just isn't worth it. I just can't drive without an interior camera. I'm not really focused on recording what happens inside the cabin. I'm focused on having coverage on the sides of the vehicle.

If this had radar parking mode, I’d buy it. I previously had the A139 and unfortunately, the battery drain in parking mode was just too significant. Even after upgrading to the largest AGM battery that fits my car, it didn’t help. My car was vandalised twice when parked near home, and both times my Viofo dashcam failed to capture anything because it had shut off. Maybe I do need to do more indepth research into separate battery packs, but when I looked previously I didn't feel they'd offer sufficient parking mode run time.

I switched to the Thinkware U3000.
Thankfully, there’s been no vandalism since. One useful feature is its ability to send a notification upon impact, along with a single frame. In the rare cases where it drains the battery too much, it also alerts you before shutting down. The U3000 can run in radar parking mode for at least a couple of days, which was my primary requirement.

The new SSD option shows that Viofo is willing to innovate, so perhaps there’s hope for such improvements in future.

Excellent review like always Ben. After having the third cam in my cabin, I feel like I would be downgrading going back to 2channel. The A329 is a solid unit but the A229 pro is still king for me

Thanks for the great video.
1. I guess Viofo needs to provide higher frame rates (60 fps AND 120 fps)at 1080p resolution with image stabilization like in NextBase (UK). And if possible with HDR.
2. Viofo then needs to focus on less current draw during parking mode and higher sensitivity to capture images and videos for any impact.
3. It needs to provide a feature of storing images on an internal storage incase of emergencies (eMMC storage) which is in addition to storage on microSD card storage.
4. Also power the dashcam with super capacitor if it is not already
5. Viofo should provide 3 channel recording with ability to connect to additional cabin camera as a modular option with A329.

With these features, it will be a dashcam to reckon with globally.

I drive a semi truck in the states. So far I’ve watched a ton of these videos. What I’m looking for in a cam is gps stats, good nighttime videos, and front and cabin views. No need for rear cam. File transfer ease in case of a road side investigation. I really like the SSD option of this cam though!! Price isn’t that great of a factor.
All that being said, and having your experience, which product would you recommend for my scenario? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

HDMI is used for streaming to OBS platforms. I would use the A329 as a backup camera to my Sony AX 53 for live streaming if OSB recognizes the A329.

Great review, I've been looking at the 229 and obviously this is a better unit.
One question when the recording 'locks' does it save 1 min, 5 min, 20sec? before you hit lock, and same with after locking how much does it store after you hit the button?
Thx

I like the idea that A329 offers better power consumption. I wish they would add an option to keep the camera recording on one channel while in parking mode, and then switch to two-channel recording when you start driving.

Wouldn't recommend any SanDisk Extreme SSD after the issues they had that were well publicised. Might help to leave a note in the video description mentioning possible alternatives...

Otherwise very decent video showing everything that a consumer would want to see, very easy to follow too for non-techies 😊

I am one of those who does find value in the HDMI port. I drive a motorhome. I am looking for a solution that will provide camera recording while driving from the driver's perspective, AND a camera view of what is right in front of the motorhome while in tight situations (i.e., a campground). The dash cam would be too far away for viewing (almost a meter). But with a external monitor mounted close to the driver, and a waterproof camera mounted low on the front of the motorhome, this would provide a perfect solution. So, I would switch to the "rear" camera in a campground and use the closer monitor to avoid hitting objects (which cannot be seen from the driver's seat), and use the dash cam main camera while driving (in case of accidents).

Because of the length of the motorhome, a rear camera is problematic to unusable. I have a rear backup camera that satisfies all my needs of a rear view in the campground, but it does not record.

for a 3-channel rideshare camera, how would compare Viofo A229 3-channel vs. Vantrue N5 4 channel vs. Vantrue N4 pro 3-channel vs. Rove R3 3-channel?

Ive been pushing for seperating the camera from its data in case of theft and people said it's not a big deal. Now it's a great idea.😂

@SafeDriveSolutions
I have replaced my Varta EFB car battery 70 Ah almost 3 years old, after 4.5 months of usage with parking mode.
My questions are:
1. Is using consistently a229 plus 3 ch parking mode with hardwire kit set to 12.1V, kill the car battery life faster?
2. I want to be able monitor low voltage and other problems more frequently, and adjust my parking mode usage.
What of the below solutions can be more suitable in your opinion:
a. Having a Bluetooth monitor constantly attached to battery with 1.5 mA consumption?
b. Monitor and test the battery constantly by using regular car battery device periodically.

The comparison I'm most interested in is vs the a119v3 or a119 mini 2. I have an old and very trusty a119v3 I've been using for years and am trying to decide if it's worth upgrading to either the mini 2 or the a329, if the quality is enough of an improvement.

Mines on order partly because of your help and advice, so thankyou.
I’m hoping the new WiFi 6 might not get booted out by my CarPlay which happens with the 139 pro, also it’d be awesome if someone could test out 4tb SSD ?
