Why should you care about the Sony RX10 IV? Phase detection

The Sony RX10 IV is a fixed lens camera with a 1"-type sensor, 24-600mm equivalent lens, that can shoot 4K video or stills at 24 frames per second, but that's not what we think is interesting about it.

The addition of phase-detection autofocus is pivotal to all those features.

the rx10iv is the most useable camera out there. brilliant camera. perfect for the day you dont want to carry loads of kit around with you. ive captured many more shots recently owning it over picking up the a7r2 and a7r3 because half the time you have the wrong lens on for the chance shot so by the time you have swapped lenses you have missed the shot, its extremely sharp and great in good light. the lens is a fixed 24-600mm with wide open f2.4 which doesnt change it does become an f4 equivalent once the lens is extended to 600mm due to the lens length becoming longer. but still sharp and very fast at focusing.

In the real world the versatility and speed of RX10 IV are awesome.
I have owned the MK II since it’s release but skipped the MK III.
For me the MK IV is an all day walk about camera that is currently without any peers.
There are of course limitations which people are eager to point out, however this is one very nice camera to live with.

I've owned three DSLR cameras and this is my fifth "bridge" camera. I recently rented a Nikon P950 for six months and it's far inferior to the Sony so I'm now renting the RX10iv which I find is the only camera in this class which has a serious "manual" function. BUT my question is why does the viewfinder black out when you operate the camera in manual, it displays darker according to the F stop which you have set it on. It was the same effect when I was using the Nikon which I couldn't wait to unload after the six month expiry. Is it because the camera is mirrorless or is it a setting I'm missing? You wouldn't expect it in a two thousand dollar camera, I have never seen this anomoly in a DSLR. Also having trouble with the auto white balance, problem is with most of these high end cameras is that the menus have become far too complicated and once you find a setting you want, it takes a week to find it again. I am not a novice, having been a news photographer all my working life, most of my better pix were shot on film !

How this series have MIS but they won't work with ATG Gold, Interfit & Profoto?
I am talking about TTL/M monolights from three major players that pros use daily.
It was very disappointed when the DSC-RX10 III did not work.
And now close to $2, 000.00, the world's first expensive point & shoot camera still won't.

0:25 Is the reviewer zooming and trying to take a picture with the lens cap on? Nice touch. No wonder you didn't notice any AF issues.

Not worth the upgrade. Your not going use this for serious sports photography, and for the rest of us the iii is good enough as the af is just about the only upgrade. They should have at least implemented a full touch screen, not just af touch, poor upgrade overall Imo especially for what they're charging for it.
