Kepler-186f - The First Earth-sized Exoplanet in the Habitable Zone

Kepler-186f is a planet outside our solar system. It orbits a star called Kepler-186 which is about 500 light-years away. The planet is similar in size to Earth and it's located in a region around its star where it's possible for water to exist on its surface. This is important because water is necessary for life. However, because the star is a type of star called a red dwarf, it's likely that one side of the planet always faces the star and the other side is always in darkness.
