China's summer box office receipts are set to be the weakest since 2014, according to data tracking the country's movie ticket sales. But IMAX China CEO Daniel Manwaring and Media Asia Group CEO CT Yip see significant growth opportunities in the country's film sector. Media Asia Group has co-produced Hong Kong's most-watched ever local film, "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In." They speak with Yvonne Man and Haidi Stroud-Watts on "Bloomberg: The China Show."

What is she talking about? The HK industry DID NOT help the mainland film market to grow. It basically died in the 1990s after they lost the Taiwanese market. The mainland market kept it alive, especially its workforce, largely relocating to the mainland. It was Hollywood movies that grew the Chinese film market until about 2016 when local movies started to take over the box office.

The United States has implemented economic sanctions on Chinese films deemed to contain anti-American propaganda, particularly those focusing on the Hong Kong Triads, Hong Kong Drug Cartels or police corruption. These films, often produced as propaganda, are believed to glorify organized crime and undermine US law enforcement efforts. The sanctions aim to curb the spread of violence and drug trafficking that these films may inspire.

Additionally, US Customs and Border Protection has banned the import of any illegal Hong Kong or related sub-content films, including those that lecture on Hong Kong's national security law with biased perspectives. The US film industry, if found distributing or promoting such content, could face legal litigation for attempting to influence Western audiences with communist ideologies and undermining fundamental freedoms.

This issue is especially sensitive given the historical context of American families who have fought in wars against communism, such as the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Soviet Cold War, and the Greek Civil War. By targeting these films, the US aims to protect its societal values and reinforce its stance against foreign propaganda that could compromise national security and democratic principles
