Never thought DG would lead me back here! What most "heavy" bands rely on extreme production to achieve, Magma were able to pull off with composition alone. Indeed one of the best of all time.

Growl vocals, out of this world bass, drum orgie. Definitely one of the most progressive songs ever.

The bass riff starting at 8:09 - wtf?! It's the most brilliant one I think I have ever heard - and then it speeds up. Magnificent.

Monstrueux !
J'écoutais ça début années 90 en allant au boulot le matin "à donf" !!
C'est encore mieux qu'un café turc serré !

definitely one of the best ways to spend 17 and a half minutes, this is starting to become one of my favorite songs.

I had the chance to see the Vandertop concept live in 1976, it was absolutely mind blowing, the sound, the energy and the musicianship left a strong impression on me for decades. I remember Top waving his head while sliding up the neck of his bass and Vander's blue eyes piercing the darkness of the small venue while playing with all his force. They really meant each note and the waves from the bass were shaking my skull. Unforgettable performance!

In fact, De Futura is a composition of the bassist Janick Top, a creation for a large electric ensemble named "Utopic Sporadic Orkestra" for the festival Nancy Jazz Pulsation on October 16 &17, 1975 in Nancy (France) whose full title is "De Futura Hiroshima", dedicated to the victims of the atomic bombings of Nagasaki, & Hiroshima on August 6 & 9 1945. You can hear in the music the deafening roar of the propellers of the 4 engines of the Enola Gay bomber, then the dropping from the hold of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, of a four and a half ton uranium bomb nicknamed Little Boy, while the sirens of the anti-aircraft defense resound. At several points, you can hear the angels singing to the victims. And at the end, the mantra "Om Mani Padme Om" is repeated.
The VANDERTOP concept was inaugurated for Magma's 1976 tour, where De Futura was incorporated into the set list of songs, but did not survive, while De Futura was recorded on the B-side of the album Üdü Ẁüdü.
What do you think about the nonsense of the joyful nodding of the heads of the regular Death-Metal audience, while the real theme of the composition was rarely explained?
Afterwards, Janick Top created the independent label 'Utopic Records' and finally completed the sequel of "De Futura", under the name of "Infernal Machina", an epic in XI tracks + a final "Resolutio", recorded in 2008 and performed on stage, with multiple musicians, including Magma musicians.

I had the chance to see them in a tiny place without stage (ground level), just as they'd reformed in the mid 90's, and they played this monster. Before they started, the bass player oiled the neck of his instrument. It took me some days to come back to Earth. Zeuhl Power !

The interplay between the bassline and the drumming in this piece is absolutely sublime

i really dig the "barber pole" non-orientable auditory illusions past the middle. the whole thing is just mind-blowing in the extreme, on several levels! amazingly, the live version from 2004 is even more ridiculously tight.

The drumming on the last bit is totally insane, never bettered by anyone! Taking in account that he plays the hi-hat at lightning speed too at the same time.

There are many remarkable discographies from many remarkable artists- but no question Magma stands as one of the most unique.

The ultimate cathartic apocalyptic zeuhl wonder !
This made countless nights of marching-band madness... love it

Still the single most evil sounding piece of music I've ever heard. I know there's music that's more dissonant, louder, more aggressive, and other things, but somehow they don't measure up. My only guess why I perceive it this way is because this music is also *seductive.* It's not merely aggressive - its rhythms, movements and relentlessness just make it seem like the soundtrack to Hell.

Sickest bass line ever. I had a dream the other night where I was at a bar and the house band played this song.
