North Korea has come away with an Olympic silver medal in table tennis mixed doubles at the Paris Games. Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong were beaten in the final by China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha on July 30, 2024. The medal was North Korea’s first in eight years, coming after the country missed the Tokyo Games and despite the squad being ranked bottom among 16 teams.

They didn't participate in the Olympics for 8 years. Even though it sounds like a long time, they only missed the 2020 Japan Olympics due to COVID-19. Considering that they only sent 16 athletes and had a GDP just above Mozambique, I think it's a pretty great achievement.
