2014 was a B team. as in England we’re already out and played lads that hadn’t got a game yet.

Not a bright idea. They fielded a B team in their last game in 2014 because they were knocked out already

2004 was a team that was more about club loyalties than country. That was a mistake the golden generation made.

Forcing Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes to play in a 442 was crazy.

All they needed was a holding midfielder behind 2 of those three like Mourinho did with Makelele in the following season.

2004 just needed a world class manager. That's it. It would have a final appearance atleast.

Different competition fellas. 2004 the talent in that generation was off the charts. Italy, France, Germany had immense teams

4-4-2 was such a default formation back in the 2000s, imagine a Mourinho 4-3-3 with that team. Insane.

2004 team was unbelievable just world class at every position apart from keeper but James was decent player still.

2024 didn't work the best. In the entire tournament, Spain was the only decent side. England just managed to be lucky enough to be the other team in the final

When Rooney got injured against Portugal at the Euros, all Erickson had to do was to push Lampard upfront to join Owen. After all, Lampard was already playing upfront as a 2nd striker for Chelsea. Then bring Scholes into the central midfield to join Gerrard. He wouldn't do that, instead, he would later take Scholes out, while the opponents were bringing in Riu Costa.

2004 was amazing but France and Italy aswell as Portugal, Spain, Germany were even better yet Greece found a way to win it

The difference is that in the 90's and early 2000's the quality of football players across the leagues was much higher than it is today.

Now compare opponents that 2004 team had to compete with over the years compared to 2024. That’s not even close either 😂

Joe Hart, Glenn Johnson, Gary Cahil, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Wayne Rooney, Raheem Sterling, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge was the preferred XI in 2014

Still proud of England, ever since Euro 96. Still believe and take the highs with the killer lows

There you have it... Being better as a team trumps a team full of individuals. We all know every football player has an ego, they also have domestic club rivalries. The reason why Gerrard and Lampard never really worked, and I mean really, is because it was Liverpool vs Chelsea. Getting a team to play as a team is one of the hardest things any coach has to do, and that goes for any sport.

2004 team was around today they would win every tournament as quality of international teams from then compared to now is astronomical

They had the 4 best English midfielders of all time, two of their best forwards of all time, Ballon D'or Michael Owen and Man U's greatest player ever Wayne Rooney, a solid defense by names but couldn't win anything

If England wants to win anything, they need to play around Cole Palmer. Like it or not, he is by far their best player. If he can singlehandedly bring Chelsea to where they are now, and make other players shine, just imagine what he could do with a full 90 minutes with a team that fits his needs.

But don't fall into the same trap as 2004, where we just throw in our best players. I don't want the best players. I want the best TEAM.

Palmer, Watkins, Saka up front. Kane if he doesn't play bad like last year. Mainoo is a must. This is the team that I want.
