When a Black woman starts a sentence with "Lemme tell you something, " run as fast as you can.

Elvin: “Sometimes when I come home, there’s nothing to eat.”
Cliff: “Are your hands broken?”
😂

I love when Claire issued that smackdown then smiled and asked what Elvin would like in his coffee. She deserved an Emmy for this role. They really robbed her of that recognition.

Claire Huxtable! How Phylicia Rashad never earned an Emmy is mind boggling.

I always love Claire Huxtable, very refined and dignified, she sets people straight without having to raise her voice or use a single word of profanity. She just carries herself so graciously, with kindness and generosity, yet is NO pushover! And if you think so, please duck (but you won’t be quick enough, POW!) 💯 Phyllis Rashad did an excellent job.

You gotta love Cliff's reaction when Elvin steps in it; he's like "Why did you go there, boy?"

"If she brings the coffee back, if I were you, I wouldn't drink it."

Claire's speech is iconic. I remember watching her as a little asian girl wanting to grow up to be a strong confident career woman like Claire Huxtable was, I even used to practice this scene in the mirror. It never really occurred to me that the family was black and that meant something until later seasons, this show was a staple in my house and the Monopoly money scene was even used in our Family and Consumer Science classes in school. Now that I'm an adult I still love that scene, I still laugh and cringe at Elvin's ideas, but now I have even more respect for Daryll in this episode. Him saying he better do some pretty good cooking and Cliff immediately yelling for Sondra to hurry up is something I would probably do as a parent (or a best friend not wanting my friend to let this gem slip away). Makes me sad that even now there are men like Elvin who aren't doing it because the writers room thought it would be funny

When you hear the sentence “lemme tell you something”, you know someone is about to have their behind handed to them.

I like how Claire huxtable spoke to Elwyn without raising her voice or using any profanity, and yet she still sent a clear message to him. Very classy.

The “coffee” narrative was absolute genius in writing and performance! One of my favorite segments ever!

Clair’s Huxtable: The Queen of Reading. Very classy and articulate and polite in reading you from A—Z. 👏

"Lemme tell you something Alvin I'm not serving Dr. Huxtable see that's the kind of thing that goes on in a restaurant. Now I'm gonna bring him a cup of coffee just like he brought me a cup of coffee this morning and that's what marriage is it's give and take 50 50 now if you don't get it together and drop these macho attitudes you're never gonna have anybody bringing you anything, anywhere, anyplace, anytime evaa"
I wish they asked me this in my exam
