I struggle with allowing myself to sound bad when making music and your videos have been really helpful with that. I want to thank you so much for that

For me is the other way around. When I'm super sad, that's when it's easier for me to compose. I have a couple of tunes that I've composed after sad events like getting dumped, getting heart broken, a friend that passed away and so on. Usually these song takes 1-2 hours to compose completely.
On the other hand, if I'm not particularly sad or anything, a song can take months or years before is finished

I get sad when I am with a social, musical group for almost two years, then when I suddenly leave, no one there either cares or don't notice.

I wrote a few songs about that.

So many of your videos resonate and are just so unique and wonderful as they are mind opening, but this one is really up there. So beautiful and honest. You're a legend Ben

This is a super good mix of sharing life-learnings, multiple interesting production techniques, encouragement through relatable struggles, and cool results you've had. I appreciate you introducing me to the concept of mudpies, I'll have to watch what Mr. Bill says, your examples really show the versatility you can have by swapping scales, sounds, and arpeggiation.
We can't always have a great time til next time, but we can always hope!

I don't say this enough, but: Thank you for your videos, Ben. They are always so inspiring, so creative, and they always get my brain working on something music related. You rock. :)

I have more hours of mudpies on my hard drive than finished material. Free-time live keyboard drumming mudpies, modular mudpies, mudpies made from going through all the patches I made on my analog synths and playing random stuff, break/beat manipulation effect chain mudpies, you name it. I also have a folder called "junkers" which is just random noises like the sounds of roller coasters and other foley, different types of noises and room tones, and aural errors I decided to keep.

Hi Ben, thanks for this video. I'm currently on day four of being full time. At the very start of my journey. But I'm determined.
Today was the first day I stayed in bed, i worked on some mixing practice for an hour and played drums. Then I went back to bed.
I said to myself before, if this keeps happening I have no chance of being creative full time. I put myself down, that it wont work, yadayada. Its a blow, I need to have that consistency.
But now I watched that video, and I see, this is normal! I gotta reduce it as much as I can, but if I just keep at it, and to my deadlines, it will work out, I'm sure.
And also, there are systems for these moments! I practiced mixing from cambridge-mt, you made a mudpie. These are productive things that dont require a good mood.
Thank you, that video helped a lot. Keep blessing us with these

I don't make music, but I do do some drawing. I've found I enjoy just drawing random lines and squiggles when I'm feeling really unmotivated. I think that might actually work as a sort of drawing version of a mud pie tough! I can easily see going back to these squiggles and creating something interesting from old periods of lack of motivation. Thanks for the inspiration!
