The more ways to build credit (responsibly) the better in my opinion! Plus a debit card with any kind of rewards is pretty solid. They gotta get the University of Texas in there though... Nice video Ben!

It’s honestly really tough for people starting out to get approved with certain issuers. The nice thing about this is you have less hoops to jump through to get approved.

Does fizz count as a credit card account on you report? Does it affect 5/24 status?

How does it work if you have particular day when you need to debit your account for something over the Fizz-imposed spending limit? Let's say airline tickets or something like that? Do you need to keep a separate debit card for those instances?

Better route for your long-term credit history would be building a relationship with a credit union and opening up a secure credit card with them along with pledge loans. This kind of crap where they play peeping Tom with your bank account is totally unnecessary.

I would like a comparison of the debit cards available.

20 y/o University student here who has tried this method -

I actually really dislike this way of building credit, mainly due to my experiences with the Extra debit card, which was the first "debit that builds credit" type system. That card required a "$7 monthly fee, " which was just their way of saying that the card had an $84 annual fee because there was no other billing option. That was the first strike.

Then, on top of that, these cards typically have a lag between how much money your bank says is in your account versus how much the Extra card said was in your account. The balances were always off by, like, $50, and upon asking the concierge (who had really good response time though), what the issue for that was, they would just give me an essay of bullshit as to what they think the problem was. This resulted in me having to rely on my bank account for correct info instead of the Extra card, but since the Extra card processed transactions a lot slower, I kept getting charged $30 overdraft fees, which sent my account into negative constantly.

The third reason was that it built credit INCREDIBLY slow. Like, 3 points a month slow. I then decided to close the account (in theory, I could've just put it in a drawer, but the $84 annual fee would've also been out in the drawer with it). This made me lose the whopping total of 13 points I accumulated with this card, so I paid $84 to do absolutely nothing to my credit. Well, now I have a closed account on my record now, but at least I'm 3/24, so I'm going for the Freedom Flex now.

I ended up just applying for the Discover It Student, which students are pretty much pre approved for anyway, and just by signing up, my credit got sent over 700 because it was an ACTUAL credit card. I just don't trust these systems. If you want to build credit, just get an actual credit card from Ben Hedges' building ladder list, and you'll be fine. You won't go above 5/24 on accident, and you'll build credit way faster than these cards could ever in a million years.

Oh, also, I bank with Chime, as well as Chase now (odd combo, ik), and it's been great.

How do students graduate with so much in CC debt? I'm almost graduated and have no CC debt whatsoever bc I pay everything off

You look a lot like Doctor Who lol.

Great info though! Never heard of Fizz until now. Have only heard of Extra.

Seems like you post one of these videos every month.

Not a fan of this video or the card. Felt like I just sat through a narration of their marketing pamflet. You've covered better credit builder cards than this before. Understand you need to pay the bills but this video missed the mark.
