DŌST DROP Review - $3.2k

Показать описание
The DŌST DROP is an approachable step-thru electric bike with upgraded components and optional second battery pack. Adjustable angle stem improves fit, 100mm spring suspension fork offers compression lockout and preload, high quality 2.4" wide Schwalbe Super Moto-X tires offer stability, visible reflective sidewalls, and puncture protection lining built-in. Lots of great accessory options including bags, cup holders, suspension seat post, mirrors, and child seat. Powerful 750 watt Bafang BBS02 mid-drive motor blends into the purpose-built frame, alloy housing keeps it protected and reduces noise. With up to 120 newton meters of torque, it's a very capable climber! A physical shift-sensor cuts motor power to protect the 9-speed Shimano Altus drivetrain whether you're in pedal assist or throttle mode. Premium European feel with extreme attention to detail, despite the mid-tier pricing. Two color options with matching fork, subtle accent colors, and decals. Almost all support hardware is black and bolts are hidden under the fenders vs. wrapping outside. Clean minimalist chain cover, smooth hydraulic disc brakes with motor inhibitors, premium integrated lights (bright dual-beam headlight, dual-LED rear light). Main battery pack is removable, optional second pack can be added and installed anytime in the future. USB charging port built into the color LCD display panel for smartphones and other accessories. Tool-free adjustable kickstand is a nice touch. The step-thru DROP model isn't as stiff as the high-step KOPE but is easier to mount and stand over. Motor uses cadence sensing vs. fancier combined cadence+torque. Fairly heavy build at ~65lbs before additional battery or accessories.

I've had my Dost ebike now for a little over 7 months and I have to admit it's been a disappointing experience. I keep my chain lubricated well, but had it come off twice in the first 4 months, getting jammed in the frame, once leaving me stranded many km from home. Then, at the 5 month period the back brakes started to give me grief as the caliper piston stopped working on one side. Now, my rear brakes stopped working altogether. I previously had a GIANT mountain bike in which I've rode daily for 27 years problem free, and I cannot even get a year out of this without grief.

I fell in love with this bike because of this video. It made me book a test drive and now I'm hooked. I was also comfortable enough to select this bike because I've seen so many of your videos. I can't thank you enough for all the knowledge and entertainment you give us. My Drop Chain is ordered and will be here in a few weeks. I'm seriously considering putting a Drop CVT on order for next year. THANKS THANKS THANKS

Dost translates to 'A friend' in India! This one looks a very good friend actually!
Best review, as usual! 👍🏻

Have been watching your A-1 reviews for years. Every bike seems to be missing one or more aspects to an all around ...hit all the bases ebike....Some of the better ones are just too expensive.
Has this company finally done it?
Mid-drive, affordable, option for second battery with loads of practical features.
Love to see and ride one in person! Wow!

Nice! I’ll keep this bike in mind as I look for a more refined ebike. I want something that is less obnoxious on the bike path, comfortable, and quiet. I have a small folding ebike and the RadRunner which rides like a tank. Also looking at similar priced Trek ebikes. Trek is great because they assemble and fine tune the bike for you but there’s no suspension. Ride1Up is on my radar too. Love the attention to detail on this bike.

This would be perfect if there was a torque sensor! I'm not personally a fan of cadence alone because it feels unnatural to me, but it's otherwise an excellent entry to the commuter space. I'm glad to see companies making really practical, thoughtful bikes that easily replace cars.

HI Court-good review. I'm a bit disappointed Dost didn't include torque sensing with their bikes.
This might be the perfect bike for my wife. As you mentioned, there looks to be a lot of thought that has gone into this design. For me, I would be interested if Dost brought out a model with the Bafang Ultra motor.

I'll bet you any amount of money Sam wanted to use a torque sensor on this bike but it probably would have broken the $3K price point barrier or changed the design in some other unfavorable way. I bought a Surface 604 Rook when Sam was with them and what sold me on that model in 2017 was the combination of hydraulic brakes and torque sensor. I see lots of that 604 vibe in this bike as well. A lot of people may balk at the price but for what you're getting I don't think it's too out of line. In fact, it may be the ideal touring bike; good on- and off-road, superb range and power, respectable load capacity.

DO NOT BUY. This company appears to have gone bust. Delivery not completed. No answer to email or calls. BBB has lots of complaints. They are still advertising on line. Why? Do your homework. Please don’t get ripped off!

Great review I have a question I currently own a Specialized Como 3.0 with an upgraded 1.3 mid motor from the manufacturer with 90NM torque, the motor is very quiet. I purchase the Dost drop bike a few days ago is the motor on the Dost bike quiet? You have demoed the Specialized como how does it compare to the Dost drop.

some corksniffing Brose/Bosch fanboys talk down on Bafang gear but the truth is their motors are solid and that bafang shift sensor is very effective.

Miss tests of the new Riese & Müller models!? When will you guys do that?

While I like the 2 year warranty, hydraulic brakes, frame, extra battery mount, mid drive motor, is it worth $1200 more than a Rad or other lower prices bike? It would be really nice to see some real life reviews. Yeah, I know I already complained about that...

Like the look of this bike, right fit for me, little pricey but disappointed for delay to get one (May/June). Spoke to Sam who confirmed delay linked to Virus issues in China

It looks nice but the battery placement feels bad. Looks like they copied the idea of hiding the middrive from Biktrix in Canada who you've reviewed before. This is more expensive then a lot of other competing bikes, but it looks worth it in most ways.

Oh and I want to mention I do use a cup holder on my own bike. I remember showing it to a serious non-eletric biker and as I said that it's been... they cut me off and expected I would say "not useful" but actually they were wrong. Being able to grab a coffee or smoothy or milktea while out and about for when you get home, it's excellent.

Very nice bike & price point. Very good review as usual Cort. One concern I have is the way they have enclosed the motor & possible overheating.

I sure wish you could test these on something other than a perfectly level surface. None of these reviews are a measure of how these perform for any male of normal weight. Face it Cort, you weigh what most men did in 7th grade. I wish you could actually do a real life performance test on these and other bikes. I realize this is a paid launch review, but as most ebikes are bought online, and are not available to test ride, (unless you live in BC) it is even more important to see real life testing. But thanks for the videos. They are still of value.
