Lesson on Lyme Disease: Pathophysiology, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment. Lyme disease is caused by an infection with a spirochete bacteria of the Borrelia genus. The clinical presentation of Lyme Disease is separated into 3 stages: Stage 1 is early localized with a characteristic erythema migrans bulls eyes target lesion, Stage 2 is early disseminated with CNS and cardiac symptoms, while Stage 3 is late persistent with characteristic arthritis and neurological symptoms. Diagnosis is made utilizing serology to detect anti-borrelia antibodies. Treatment depends on the stage of the infection.

I removed a tick almost two weeks ago and thought it was fine but I kept the tick in a jar just in case something happened. A big red area appeared around the bite and a few symptoms appeared so my doctor put me on Doxycycline two days ago. Take care and bring tweezers in your first aid kit folks, make sure to remove ticks properly and to see a doctor or pharmacist if you are bitten because this could have been much worse. You can do better and prevent tick bites or help others as well as yourself from problems by taking precautions. All the very best to everyone, please take care of yourselves and have a healthy, happy life 🙏

When I was around 9 I was diagnosed for lyme disease. My leg was swollen from the built up water and it hurt to walk. I recently thought about learning more about the disease. I'm now 14 and with the help of prescribed medicine I got rid of the swelling of my knee. I have a pretty strong immune system, but I'm worried that I may have some long term effects.

Thanks for sharing.
I do not have medical degree but I clearly understand the logical flow of disease, clinical manifestation and treatment on different stages.

Who's here because they got Lyme disease in the middle of a pandemic? My county has had 319 cases since the year 2000. Guess who is 320. Me. The lucky winner

You DO NOT need a bullseye rash at all!

Question: If a tick bites a human and this human then gets B. burgdorferi, and a naive tick bites this human again, does the naive tick now also have B. burgdorferi? Or is the amount of bacs in the blood not high enough?

Im a little confused about the Bell's Palsy bullet point.

Does lyme disease cause Bells Palsy or something similar? Everything I've looked up says Bell's Palsy has the same symptoms as facial paralysis in lyme disease, but they are two completely different things.

So, it is curable, especially in the early stage? A simple round of antibiotics and you should be fine?

So many things to say about this desease !

You talk about the Erythema Migrans as if it is a given but it is not. Far from everyone gets the "bulls eye mark" unfortunately a lot of doctors think that they do. Ergo "oh you didnt get a bullseye rash? you dont have lyme disease." This approach is of course totally wrong.

If Lyme Disease is positively diagnosed, how many days should the Doxycycline be taken?
14 days? 21 days? or 28 days ? Thank you.
