i would love a future video where it’s like “color with me” and it’s just like an hour and a half of cozy vibes and music and we can color together in silence. it would be so cute!

Thank you for the reminder that hobbies are meant to be fun and not perfect. I gave up creative writing and learning how to crochet because I wasn't good at it in my mind.

I have a gardening journal where I draw my garden design, keep track of the flowers I've planted, what care they need, and the months they bloom! I also sketch my flowers in the journal and press flowers I planted x ❤🌷

I never knew why I couldn't follow through with a hobby or got tired with them so quickly. But curating my own "Brain Off" and "Brain On" hobby lists has really helped me realize what my brain needs when managing my ADHD.

me literally crocheting as I watch this 😂 I think for me, crocheting can be "brain on" when I start a project & am trying to figure out what I'm meant to be doing, but once I feel familiar with the instructions it's more brain off. Like you, I struggle to watch things if that's the only thing I'm doing, so crochet is often a go-to for me while I'm watching youtube videos.

This is literally GOLD for my ADHD. when im understimulated i need BRAIN ON. And when im overstimulated i def need brain off. Sounds obvious, but i never like realised consciously. And I saw your shorts about it and my brain went 🤔💡. I always wondered why all my hobbies felt like no fun. Because the ones i was thinking about werent serving what i needed in the moment!!

I genuinely love the message that you don’t have to be good at something to do it or enjoy it. It’s really helped me set aside perfectionism and anxiety and just try the things I want to try.

My fave new cozy hobby has been candlestick painting! It looks so whimsical and also low pressure because I just use up the candlestick if it doesn't look "cute" but it's so so fun!

ok I'm dying at the "listen to an audiobook" counter😂 I love these ideas tho! I have the supplies for probably over half of these hobbies so this was a good reminder to pull some of them out again lol

Thank you so much for talking about how important it is to let go of perfectionism with hobbies!!

I think you're right about textile crafts being in the middle, but not just for the reason you said. Once you're good at a craft and have collected a bunch of sub-skills, you then have the ability to work on projects that will be brain off OR brain on, depending on what you're in the mood for. The possibility space is massive with these, and you can totally tailor them to whatever experience you want or need in that moment (once you clear a certain skill barrier, of course).

You would be a fantastic therapist for teens! This is great stuff for mental health!

I love puzzles too! I appreciate what you said about the purpose of hobbies- it shouldn’t be another obligation.

Personal story about puzzles- my husband and I have been together 16 years now. Through those years we’ve had some big moments where we had issues to sort out. And one particular big time “idk if I even want to be in this relationship anymore” issue my solution to have a time and space to talk. Lay it on on the table was to work a puzzle. We put the kids to bed and sat at the table and worked the puzzle and spoke when we had something g to say. And it worked to have something to occupy my eyes attention when I was so angry with him I couldn’t even look at him. And it gave me time to process what I wanted to say and helped me listen when he spoke just to have something to do with my hands. It was couples therapy. Hes not big into puzzles but I told him I needed this. And we evolved that into walks when we could talk more. And that was about 10 years ago we’re still married! So 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have had perfectionism so bad I almost failed out of art school, and I think junk-journaling is BRILLIANT. SO EXCITED TO TRY IT.

Im surprised you didn’t mention an instrument. Piano is my #1 hobby. I memorize everything so it can either be brain on or brain off. Learning a new section of a piece can be very challenging & definitely occupies your mind & it can be SO SATISFYING & exciting adding a new piece to the puzzle building on what you’ve already learned when things start sticking & you see the improvement before you eyes/ears. & then I just love playing the pieces I’ve already learned purely using muscle memory which is great cuz it takes like 25% brain power & I can just get really into it & feel the music as I play, which is also so satisfying & makes me feel really empowered like wow I’m just casually playing this impressive piece like a talented musician🥰🎹✨

I currently don’t have a yard I can use for gardening, but I do have a nice sunny deck! I bought a bunch of 20 gallon fabric pots (also called grow bags) and am growing some very happy tomatoes and cucumbers :) it’s worth a try!

I love to see gardening here because so often on a weekend I'll look up and I've spent four hours in my veggie garden 😅

Such a true point about cozy games being different for different people and different times. I have been loving getting into cozy games (thanks to binging your channel while trying to recover from burnout), but I will never play one that involves time-crunch-task-management. I'm gaming as a break from work--I don't want to have the stresses of work in a game! 😂 But I totally get that a lot of people really love building worlds and communities in things like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.
Great video with lots of variety of recommendations, and more tools for our fun/relaxation toolbox! 🥰

I hope lots and lots of people get into gardening!!! Not too sure how things work in the US but over here (Australia) we have lots of monthly gardening magazines that covers topics from how to structure your garden to the basics. Gardening Australia is a great show that’s given some good tips. Most of my gardening knowledge though has come from volunteering in a community garden. It’s a pretty simple hobby (depending what you want to grow) but every plant has the same steps, just in different degrees. My only thing is to be educated on what’s invasive in your area as even if it’s invasive it can be sold in stores !! I also highly encourage people to plant natives along with your veggies.
