Protein Packed Homemade Hummus! (Red Lentils)

Hummus is one of life’s great pleasures. It’s creamy, tasty, healthy and makes sticks of vegetables even more delicious!

We’ve made loads of hummus before but never with lentils. We thought we’d try making hummus with lentils and we’re glad we did because it was absolutely lush!

Now the important part:

Ingredients:

Hummus:
1 cup dried red lentils (200g)
2 garlic cloves
3 tbsp tahini
1 tsp smoked paprika
5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 lemon
Salt and pepper to taste

First, prepare the lentils | Cook the lentils according to packet instructions | When the lentils are tender, strain them through a sieve and leave them to cool to room temperature

Now, prepare the hummus | Peel and roughly chop the garlic | Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a blender, catching any pips in your free hand | Add the garlic, tahini, paprika, olive oil and lentils to a blender and blitz into a paste | Taste the hummus, season to taste with salt and pepper and blitz to combine.

Simple and great recipe. I've always red lentils at home and will definitely make this spread more often. Today i made it and added one small carrot to the other ingredients.

You only forgot 1 tea spoon of cumin. Then it is perfect and indistinguishable of any other hummus.

No need to blend red lentil hummus. The lentils cook down to a puree anyway which is one of the advantages of using them instead of chickpeas.

Hummos literally means chick peas.
This whole recipe doesn't have chick peas so why call it hummos? 🐥
