A Simple Mistake That Led to the Most Unfair Punishment Ever !
There was this one time when I woke up late for school—or at least I thought I did—because my alarm didn’t go off. Now, I’m practically blind without my contacts, so when I glanced at the clock, I freaked out. I was super late! In a full-blown panic, I threw my contacts in, dunked my head in water, grabbed my backpack and jacket, and bolted out the door, sprinting to the bus stop.
It was that time of year when it’s still pitch black outside in the morning, so the darkness didn’t clue me in. When I got to the bus stop, no one was there. I figured I must’ve missed the bus, but I waited a while longer, just in case. As the minutes ticked by and the bus still didn’t show, I finally accepted that I was way too late. Defeated, I trudged back to my house, dreading what would happen next.
When I walked through the front door, my mom was already up, waiting for me. She greeted me with a look, and I blurted out, “I’m so sorry, but I missed the bus! Can you take me to school?” She stared at me, then said, “It’s 4 in the morning.” That’s when it hit me—I’d totally misread the clock in my panic.
But the worst part? My mom didn’t buy it. She thought I’d snuck out with friends the night before and was just coming back home. You see, sneaking out was something I’d been caught doing off and on around that time. So, even though I was just too early for school, I ended up getting grounded for sneaking out. The irony? I was trying to be responsible and make it to school on time!
