Lyrics:

A sudden kiss in the morning, a tender gaze in the evening
Beyond my range of comprehension until you brought to attention
Greetings always followed by sweet goodbyes, yes, all must meet its end
Baby, can’t you just relax? Don't look back, don’t hurry!

Still reminiscing the day when you left me all on my own, then
I walked away from any daylight, instead of dawn it was twilight
Underneath the disco ball breaks the spell that holds you in my mind
Though I used to dance with you, now we’re through, I’m sorry!

Don't you dare even try to convince me, don’t you lie ‘bout the way that we could be
"Love’s a game" they all say it, they mean it–might as well have fun, play every single one
I filled the holes and the cracks in my heart with fancy high heels and plenty of dresses
They’re my sole companions on this journey

Many men, that are fishing and begging, speak of love but they’re still second-guessing
Hollow vows, even promises broken: every face and voice brings memories of you
Glassy eyes shedding tears of my sorrow, hoping they will forget by tomorrow
Praying no one’s asking for the reason.

A thousand dazzling lights surround me, glimmering with mysticality
As if they’re calling me to head back, but tired train rides endure that,
Half-asleep I hear a sigh, hear a voice speak whispers best ignored
Should I even bother though, yes or no: don’t worry!

I'm just playing games, I know that's plastic love
Dance to the plastic beat, another morning comes
I'm just playing games, I know that's plastic love
Dance to the plastic beat, another morning comes

I was in Japan last week and this exact translation was playing in a prize arcade in Akihabara

As a Japanese person, I want to thank you for this beautiful translation and cover. It warms my heart knowing that City Pop is appreciated as a niche on the Western internet, since every Japanese has amazing memories from the Bubble era.

You've created a gold standard for English covers.

The biggest secret in plain sight. My recommendations were no help since I've been listening to this song all along anyways. It wasn't until I saw Irys singing Renai Circulation until it hit me like a rock.

You know what I love the most about this? You guys didn't put any special twist or style on it even though it's you singing. It's just the original translated and that's all: the same singing technique, same style. And even going out of your way to make sure the lyrics made coherent sense in English and fit with the rest of the original English lyrics! LIKE THIS IS TOO PERFECT FOR WORDS DUDE

The anime portrait of Maria Takeuchi is precisely on point. She's like from a Ghibli House character.

This translation is so impressive, must have been super difficult to preserve the lines' themes, melodies, and rhymes from such a fundamentally differently structured language

It took me this long to realize I've been fan of hers before being a fan of hers.

As a fluent Japanese speaker and a city pop geek, I absolutely love this translation. I think it’s important, when translating two alien languages—like English and Japanese—that it’s important to deliver the same intent.

Also, I’m so glad you stuck to the same vocal quality as Mariya-Sama. I think modern pop singers soup up vocals waaay too much, and the original intent of the author gets lost. Your attempt to stick to her melody is spot on and gives a nice treat.

It's quite rare for me to come across an English cover that meets and blends well with the original track without rushing or dragging. Usually since the lyrics were already written with a specific tune and beat in mind, that means translating it necessitates stretching or condensing many words and making it quite cumbersome. This fits snugly with the track and it's a superb and wholesome experience. You've made a masterpiece among English translation, friend.

I love how she continues to heart and read the comments on this. It makes me so much more happier to know that an awesome person is behind such an awesome cover.

I’m a Japanese, 20 years old.
I don’t know the era that this song was released by Mariya Takeuchi.
But, I can feel the sophisticated atmosphere of ‘80s Japan and imagine the prosperity of my home country at that time by listening this masterpiece.

I'm Japanese music listener and I think this translating is so nice.

Although rewriting the lyrics on another language is really hard, this lyrics not only give me a nealy original atmosphere but also rhymes in the end of some phrases(Japanese doesn't have rhyming practice like a English).

This is not literal translation, but very nice as song's lyrics.

As a Japanese listener, this translation is not precise, but more importantly this lyrics capture the tune's atmosphere and provide magnificent rhyme in the first place. No one can do the good job like this!

I saw a comment mentioning that this exact translation was played in Akihabara and since I'm studying abroad in Japan I decided to have a look around and guess IT'S ACTUALLY TRUE!! It's so cool to hear this song in what I believe is the Otaku capital of the world. Good work and much love 👍♥♥♥

You're a superb singer, but you're a hella good lyricist. Not only is your translation solid and natural, the lyrics match the rhythmic flow flawlessly. I swear you even picked words whose consonants and vowel shapes matched the original lyrics as much as possible. It's a work of art! Truly impressive!
