Thank you very much for the video! The topic of CALs for on-premise solutions is clear now, but it gets more complicated in the case of cloud solutions. Can I use my Windows Server User CALs (without active SA) in order to license access to Windows Server hosted in the cloud? My customer uses a Virtual Private Server solution (VPS), and would like to license access to the server with his existing assets (WS User CALs) purchased some time ago. Is it possible to use CALs without active SA there (as BYOL)?

Thank you. Is the software going to have any idea how many devices have connected to it? Or is it just to be compliant?
For example on ebay i see 2008r2 with 5 user CALs. If I put a database on C drive I want to access it from six computers in my office could i legally do that? Or do i need 6 CALs? Are theCALS noted in the license key?
I hope that wasn't too many questions thank you in advance

Sam- I'm in argument with one of my sales guys. As pertains to Microsoft licensing, I say a "user" is a person--a warm body. He thinks it's a Active Directory user. In his case, a generic/group/shared account used by five people on five client devices count as one CAL. I say it's five. I've been hunting for a definition of "user" and cannot find one. Can you point me to the "fine print."

This is the closest thing I found in the Glossary - "Licensed User means the single person to whom a License is assigned."

Thanks

Hi Sam

I still confused, why we need use CAL to acces Windows Server if we can directly access by Remote Desktop that windows already have ?

hi. you said 0365 licenses give you Cal rights. Does that include access to on-premise servers?

I’m about to install a DELL EMC ROK WinSrv2019 Standard to such a device and also purchased 20 Device CALs.

I’m trying to wrap my head around this… How does MS keep track of the existence of CALs? I’ve only found installation guides for RDS CALs (but I don’t need those).

Are CALs just a “purchase for the sake of legality and somewhat outdated method to control Windows Server usage?”

I am having trouble finding the answer to my licensing question. I would appreciate your assistance. I work for a company that is mostly remote employees. We have 3 Remote Desktop Servers on the network we need to access for different purposes. All 3 Remote Desktop servers use the same Remote Desktop licensing server. The Remote Desktop licenses are per user. For me to be able to connect to all 3 of the Remote Desktop servers, are 3 Remote Desktop per user CALs needed or just 1? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Alex, the video is nice but you are too fast. If you could take it a bit slowly in your subsequent videos. Thanks for the fantastic job. Cheers!
