The whole space seems more claustrophobic tbh, the open space inder the island has its purpose as a storage unit and a counter and also was open enough to not clutter the room

If you close up all the sides, do you not loose the storage capacity of the unit?

I will be doing a project like these. I bought an antique molave dining made of live edge wood and will definitely take inspiration from these though using solid wood instead to match the log used as legs

Why would you do that???
No space for stools, so people can eat at unit....was the storage area kept, I hope so. Otherwise, they've just ruined a perfectly functioning and practical kitchen island
