I remember back in the day my math teacher would always say "what are you going to do, carry a calculator in your pocket with you every where?".

Fun fact - Apple didn't invent smartphone, they just invented the term. There were phones in Japan which were much advanced than the iPhone. But no one could do a kickass marketing campaign like Jobs

This is total BS. Apple didn't come up with putting GPS, MP3, cameras, internet, etc., in mobile phones. I had a Sony Ericsson that could do everything he mentioned long before there was an iPhone. Apple did ONE thing that was kind of revolutionary for smartphones, and that was including a GOOD touchscreen. Everything else existed before. They get way too much credit.

They also weren't the first to put cameras or GPS into a phone, but they did manage to do it quite well.

Apple has always been great at utilizing available tech when it becomes good enough and combining them in a way that makes people pay the premium they charge for it. Once you're in the ecosystem you won't want anything else because it doesn't work too well with tech that's not from apple. That's why they were the first trillion dollar company

In early 2005, the engineers at Nokia presented a concept of a revolutionary idea for a phone, with big touch screen capable to do everything a laptop at the time could do. They claimed that eventually everyone will be using a "micro PC". The directing manager for Nokia J. Ollila dismissed the concept as ridiculous, claiming nobody would ever want to use such a thing. But the engineers believed in their concept, they just needed to find someone who was willing to buy it. They found Steve Jobs. This deal is not publicly known, but my dad worked for Nokia when this happened, as an engineer.

LG Prada was probably the first commercially successful full-screen smartphone, prior to this we had smartphones with fully physical QWERTY keyboards like Blackberry and Palm Treos.

Gaelileo didn’t invent the telescope, but he made his own version, innovated on it, and used it to chart the heavens. Just because someone didn’t invent something doesn’t make their innovations any less important.
