The Germans used a fiberglass substance called zimmerett.their tanks were already underpowered they would not have been able to add concrete

The tanks shown are M4 Shermans, not any model of German tanks. Germans used zemmerit to deter magnetic mines.

They didn't use cement. They used a paste-like substance called zimmerit, and the only reason it wasn't widely used on German tanks was because Germany was the only nation to develop magnetic mines.

Like literally everything you said was wrong the Americans put concrete on their tanks thinking it would add more armor protection but in testing it showed no increase of protection and just tore up the suspension even more the Germans put a coding on their tanks to prevent magnetic Minds being put on their tanks but it was not concrete but they were the only ones using magnetic mine so it was absolutely pointless

The Germans ironically were the only ones to manyfacture magnetic mines. The Russians would use captured German magnetic mines. The Allies would use wood or sandbags. The coating on German tanks was a mix of cement called Zimmert anti magnetic coating.

My great grandfather had to this but I was told they would wait in little holes and attach it onto the bottom of the tank when they rolled over them

US soldier put cement on their tanks, because every Panzer can punch a hole in their crappy Shermans!

I think cement on US tanks was more to disrupt the plasma-jet caused by a hollow-charge weapon such as a Panzerfaust or Panzershreck, rather than as a defence against magnetic-mines. The later were often applied to the engine-deck of tanks, which were not typically concreted, and moreover, were rarely hit by hollow-charge weapons.

The result of the war showed how ingenious the idea was.😂

Bro no for the Soviets it was logs and it was actually the USA that put cement on there m4 Sherman's for more protection against German tanks but didn't do anything

With cement shells wouldn't bounce off an angled surface that easily i would think

The cement was an air gap between the magnets face and the metal under neath. Holding magnet assemblies have a magnetic field that doesn't reach out very far and are not effective with an air gap equal to one half inch away from the armor so the mines can't get to touch the armor's surface. It must have surface contact so the flux can use as the return path creating a very powerful holding property. The cement isn't magnetized it is providing the space between the mag face and what attracts the magnetic flux.

The only thing is I believe Russians didn't used magnetic mines and the coating only slowed down the production because it took so long to put on.and. dry..when the tanks could have gone straigh🎉to the front

Nonono, the Americans were the ones who putted cement on their tanks because many crews believed it would provide additional armor against German guns, for the whole anti-magnetic mine, they used some sort of paint I think that turned out to be extremely flammable

Typically Sherman and Pershing crews would do this rather than panther and tiger ones. The Germans used the useless zimmerett as nor the Soviets or the allies used anti tank mines in mass. The American crews used the concrete, sandbags, wood, and welded armor to increase survivability rather than stop at mines.

Well the German tanks didn’t have an issue killing Soviet tanks, most Soviet tanks where poorly made and always broke down before even engaging in combat, the reason the Soviet’s still beat German tanks was because for every 1 panzer, there’s like 10 t34, also the American lend lease came in clutch

An ideal magnetised surface hey ! I think you messed up
