Can we all pool together and buy the patents for the good stuff and start over with a clean slate?

Really enjoyed golite when it was golite, even purchased some gear and visited their store in Boulder, CO. These days I try to shop with companies that specialize in specific products, smaller mom and pop shops, versus a company that tries to do too much. I find the companies that specialize do amazing at those products. There are exceptions, and there are times I don't use a specialty company. All-in-all it's sad to see golite become what they have become.

GoLite initially started their business by commercially offering products that were found in Ray Jardine's Beyond Backpacking Guide, a DIY pioneer of lightweight backpacking and camping gear. Jardines do it yourself book provides instructions on how to make your own gear. Using material like silnylon or parachute fabric was only available by homegrown gear makers until GoLite launched their business. Now hikers could purchase at their shop or online a frameless backpack, silnylon tarp and quilt shaving pounds off their base weight.

Thanks. I hate too YouTube channels claiming every week the best, top 10 gears. No tests, just the commercials from the companies. Just a way to make money with affiliated links.

I got back into hiking and backpacking not long after golite was no longer. I still see some of their products around that I would love to get my hands on.

I still have a bunch of golite hiking shirts that are wearing well even after about 10 years. They had some products that were great. 😊

My Golite Breeze pack and Cave 1 tarp are still going strong after nearly twenty years hard use. Love them.

Three years ago when we were in Colorado my son went to the store and checked out their backpacks and bought one . It started having tear issues after the first 3 day backpacking trip . After much phone talking he DID get a replacement BP . It is very light and for the $$ then it was a real contender "then" for price VS wt & features . He still uses the pack for short BP-ing trips and day hikes and such . Held up OK so far. Wanted one of their teepee's but they were always sold out .. bg

If you go to the "contact" section of the current My Trail website, you'll see that their mailing address is an industrial area of Boulder, Colorado. Boulder is where Dimitri (the original GoLite founder, and founder of My Trail) resides. When Dimitri started My Trail, he publicly stated that he had retained full ownership of the original GoLite designs and patents. Regardless, I never liked My Trail as he apparently also retrained the original GoLite email lists, and I was receiving MyTrail spam at least once (or twice) a week asking for investment and funding). GoLite originally was mail order only (no stores). They used to have a warehouse sale in Boulder about every six months. Great prices, always crowded, and always sold out. They more than overextended when they opened their stores. Their "flagship" store was located in the absolutely priciest retail section of Boulder, essentially an area that primarily only tourists shop.

I wasn't into being outdoors when the company was around, and this video is the first I'm hearing about them. I just wanna add $0.02 to the mix. I have a list of videos that are those hated "Top ten..." It's not because I think I'm getting unbiased reviews of gear, most of the product descriptions you find on these lists are being presented by the company that is trying to get you to buy them. So I know that it's not a review, but for me it is an introduction to many products that I have never heard of before. Not just brands, but things I would have never thought to take with me camping or hiking. (good example is the myriad of different fold-able shovels. I had just planned on getting something like my old Marine Corps issue E-Tool, but I saw some others out there that now have me comparing the pros and cons of each one). I think of the top ten lists like I think about Wikipedia, not to be considered an authority, but a good place to start researching. When I come across something that I am interested in I will search for review videos and user reviews of the product. More often than not I wind up going with a competitor's version of the product I saw in the video. Thanks for your hard work and gear reviews, you haven't let me down yet.

Luke I bought some gear from the my trail co. I bought 2 backpacks, and there down jackets with hoods, very nice. Their rain gear was made very nice but a little on the heavy side. It’s a shame That the company tanked! Most of the gear that I purchased was affordable and it seem like decent quality. Your absolutely right when your on a website and it links right to amazon, that’s terrible. I can’t see them surviving that either.

Bummer, I really liked their Shangri-la Tents. They could have made such an outdoor impact with just a very few products. I'm sorry to see them end up this way.

Luke👍 Good info and comments. Never bought anything from this company, so no worries. Yeah, pretty disgusting business practice. S&H Enjoy!

I bought a down jacket for cheap from em couple years ago and used it on the John muir trail. It did a good job and was only 60 bucks. When they were go lite though I bought pair of shoes that lasted a month b4 the souls came off.
