Ultralight shelter systems. The Poncho Tarp. A great option for ultralight hiking.

I have been using my poncho tarp for the last two hiking seasons. The 30 denier sil-nylon tarp shows no signs of wear whatsoever.
When it does finally wear out, replacing this thing with another identical poncho taro is going to be a no-brainer.
Check out what makes the poncho tarp so great.

Good video, agree with all the points you raise. Ive made 4 custom poncho/tarps, with head slit rather than circle (like the MLD design). A long slit, up to 40 cm long, definitely helps getting one's head through quickly & comfortably when wearing hat & glasses . Also a large head opening allows good ventilation up over the chest area. I reckon having things attatched to the front of your pack shoulder straps, like water containers helps with ventilation - keeping the fabric off your chest.

Speaking of awesome pitches with the poncho tarp check out the plow point.

My Trail has been sold out on these for a while, unfortunately! Supposedly in the Spring they are restocking their sold out items. Hope so!

So....2020. Is there a currently available poncho that you would suggest? (I want to buy once and cry once!) thanks!

I am curious how tall you are? I am a bit over 6' and looking for a poncho tarp that can be used for my hammock set up. Would a 10' long poncho work? While I'm at it what would be a max width for a poncho? If it's not obvious already I'll be looking for something custom made.

What are your thoughts on Six Moon Designs’ Gatewood Cape? What’s your technique for setting up the poncho as a tarp while it’s raining?
