Yes ideals, morals, codes of honor, ethics, and more are instilled into the mindset and cultures of certain countries that thrive on uniting together for their betterment.
Divided, any country will face downfall and certain anarchy or an authoritarian takeover

It's partly ideals, but a lot of it is connected to poverty, which is connected to economics. If people think they'll eat better after a coup, they'll support the coup, regardless of their ideals. People don't follow their ideals unless they have some faith in the future.
