Hearing a 91-year-old man who has lost everything say "I will just start over again" is the most bittersweet thing I have ever heard. So sad

It's not the house that's important. It's the stuff: irreplaceable photographs, family heirlooms, and documents that are important.

Most don’t realize that Altadena is arguably the most iconic and classic part of Los Angeles. The homes were 100 plus years old and amazingly maintained and fun to see. It’s devastating

A friend who had 2 evacuate altadena yesterday morning said they do know the beginning: high winds knocked down a power line, it hit dry brush. That's it.

We lost 8000 homes in Western NC hurricane Helene and so far 100 dead (more to be found or still missing). FEMA housing vouchers running out. It's in the 20's at night here. People lost homes, family members, all their possessions, important paperwork and ID, vehicles, jobs, businesses, roads washed out, etc... Climate Change is real ! So sorry for the fire victims !

Sending prayers from Lake County. We went through this for four years in a row. My heart aches watching this. I pray for all responders to be safe. They're doing all they can. And they're losing their homes too while trying to save what they can also 😢

IT IS JUST SHAMEFUL HOW SO MANY COMMENTS ARE JUST POLITICAL/ THESE ARE FELLOW AMERICAN'S WHO CARES WHO THEY VOTE FOR, HOW PATHETIC, THAT IS ALL PEOPLE CARE ABOUT. NOT THE PAIN OR LOSS HUMANS ARE GOING THROUGH. ONLY IN AMERICA IS THERE SUCH HORRIBLE DIVISIONS.

My sister lives in S Pasadena. Im waiting to hear how her night was. Last I heard, she had no electricity or water but was safe. In 30 years, this is the worst. 😢🤞

With the size of these fires and the record high winds even if they had 5 times the water and 5 times the number of firefighters it would not have made a difference. With all the dry shrubbery, trees, modern building material and all the flammable plastics we have nowadays with 80 mph winds its not humanly possible to stop these fires once they have really started up. Its like going to war with small water pistols, more water would not have made a difference. Climate change from decades of how we live is real and increasing the amount of water and firetrucks will not solve this.

Why do people always think it can’t happen here? It shows how disconnected we are. The whole world was locked down overnight. I have been a California resident since birth and we have always experienced major anxiety and alerts when the Santa Ana’s start blowing. When you have so many houses so close together in the hills and such dry conditions then add the high winds it’s a recipe for disaster. Mother Nature doesn’t discriminate and reminds us we are small in this world. Hopefully this will bring people together and show that although it’s heartbreaking to lose things we hold so tightly to What really matters is compassion, love for our fellow human beings. ❤

My heart goes out to my hometown. But we recovered after the Oakland Hills fire, Californians always recover. Remember we are Californians, we survive, floods, mudslides, earthquakes and fires. And we get better each time. I know it's hard, but the City of the Angels will rebuild and will go on. Northern California's heart is broken, we love you LA from your brothers and sisters in San Francisco and the Bay.

Why isn’t the media covering traffic and escape routes instead of showing us this? People are still trying to evacuate and need to know where to go.
