#Gravitas | On Tuesday, Russian foreign intelligence services accused Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky of taking “insane” steps that threaten to escalate the war far beyond his country. President Vladimir Putin has promised Ukraine a "worthy response" after the war-battered country claimed to have seized 1,000 sq km of Russian territory in Kursk. But how long will Ukraine be able to celebrate this win? What will Russia's revenge look like? Just how violent will a Russian response be?

Ukraine knows this ‘occupation’ is only short-term, and is to advance their war effort.

This whole Kursk operation is being done to cause a disruption for this year’s BRICS summit, that will be hosted in Russia on October.

Russia weak response has been the reason Ukraine has the ability to retaliate; it’s clearly evident that NATO won’t stop supplying weapons.

I cannot fathom how this beligerent war was allowed by sane leaders. Have people forgotten what justice is or crimes against humanity?

Impossible to conceive/believe Ukraine took 1000 km of Russian territory and over 120 000 Russians evacuated

This will not end well

Soviet tanks were approaching the Reich Chancellery in Berlin. "Sir, please evacuate." Hitler replied, "What nonsense are you talking about! Those are our German tank units returning from an attack on the enemy." He was obsessed with delusions until the moment of his death.

Ukraine has taken 1000km2 in one week. That’s more than Russia has taken in the whole year.

Now Putin tell us what is like being invaded? If you respect Ukraine sovereignty you will not taste your own recipe.

Blah, blah, blah if Russia's military was so formidable this war would have ended long ago.

Not sure what Putin can do to retaliate? Something extreme like attacking Ukraine with troops, tanks, artillery and rockets??

Kursk makes me think of a mini Battle of the Bulge. An attempt to prove a point whilst trying to gloss over losing key areas in the decisive fight in Donbass. All of this just to send a message with very little to gain and possibly reinforcing a rally around the flag effect among your enemy... in the very best case, it s a Pyrrhic PR victory, in the worst case, you ve shown you re this desperate that you re willing to trade a short-lived win to the detriment of your overall strength and that of other frontlines where these forces could have been deployed... whilst already being outnumbered.
Ukr conquers fields and lightly guarded spaces while the Russians still keep crawling forward on the decisive Donbass front and this is meant to improve their situation? It s a huge gamble and I wouldn t be surprised if it even ends in a steep increase of support in favour of the campaign among the Russian population.
