Poor Hamster. No wonder why he didn't want to be in this cage

Hey. I know that those cages are marketed towards hamsters but they are too small. A nice 40 gallon tank would be much better for your hamster

Never pick up a hamster from the sides. It can hurt or damage their inside organs. Always pick them up from the bottom and hold them in a cup with preferably 2 hands.

Basically all of these comments are accurate please please PLEASE get your hammy a bigger cage and the enrichment he needs

1: hamsters have EXTREMELY stretchy cheeks, and it seems like yours was trying to store that pen for later.

And 2: please get a bigger cage for that guy. I can tell you care for him, and you probably just don’t know proper requirements for it. If you do some research you could make your hamster feel a lot happier.

All other comments about his cage size aside, the fact that companies are still mass producing environments this size is a bit of a problem.

Hamsters need a lot more space than your cage provides for it. You would easily avoid him escaping by giving him more to do in a bigger enclosure. 👍🏻

Everyone's saying get a bigger cage, but its important to note hamsters typically prefer distance as apposed to height. A taller enclosure isn't necessary a better enclosure, and there are other options as apposed to cages.

I had a friend who used a glass shelving unit (on its back and without shelves) and that made a nice long hamsters enclosure.

Perhaps you should get a bigger cage, I'm no hamster expert but I'm pretty sure that the one you have now is a tad bit small. Hamsters benefit from more length rather than height since they aren't really climby creatures, and they are burrowing animals so a thicker layer of whatever people use for hamster bedding would probably also be good for you hamster. ☺️

I don't blame it trying to get out of that cage

So many things wrong with this
1. Bad cage
2. A hamster does not just eat a pen
3. The hamster could not have gotten up the stairs
4. Don't hold a hamster like that
It's sad to see so many animals being treaded poorly because people don't do research.

If you are counfused: Hamsters have pouches in their cheeks that can go down to their hip! Nothing to be worried about, the often store food and bedding in their pouches.

That looks to be a female Syrian hamster. It’s cage is wayyyy to small, they prefer length rather then height (they don’t climb very much). Try looking at bin cages or a 40 gallon breeder tank. Good luck!

Cage is too small. It can cause stress /premature death / illness. Terrible.

I never knew hamsters can go that deep in their bodies. It's kinda alarming! 😲

If your gonna get a hamster, buy a large aquarium cage and make an environment with a bunch of things in there, like a 3 story platform or something. I’ve learned that my hamsters were stressed being in the hamster cage which was the biggest cage they had on store, they get bored of it after a year so give them more space and an environment they can run around in
