I’m sceptical about this but giving the recent acquisitions from other companies, anything is possible.
I will say that having franchises like Final Fantasy and Life is Strange under the Sony umbrella would be awesome.

The only reason I don’t want this is bc I want Nintendo to still release appropriate titles on Switch. Like the lower fidelity games, they’re perfect for portable play

This definitely increases the chances of Sony acquiring Square Enix. Sony trimmed the fat in their Japanese studios, Square trimmed the fat in their western studios. Now a merge would have perfect synergy.

Square would get:
better management so we don’t wait 10 years between kingdom hearts and final fantasy games.
Help from Sony 1st party studios
Help from smaller Sony studios for remakes, remasters, and ports.

Sony would get:
Back catalog for ps plus
1st party rpg’s
1st party Live service games (ff14 mmo)

And tbh they will probably keep most square games multiplat. They would do this just to ensure another company doesn’t buy square.

This reminds me when FF was just on Nintendo. I bought a ps1 just to play ff7.

Although, I haven’t really enjoyed a FF game since FF12. I will still follow the franchise out of some kind of nostalgic loyalty 😂

I think this is a good thing overall. I generally enjoy Sony Exclusives and the games that are released under their umbrella. I feel that Sony, Nintendo, and Xbox all have their lanes now. Xbox/PC = competitive multiplayer, Sony = Single player narrative driven games, Nintendo = dye in the wool video games in the classic sense.

I hope this isn't the case, but it does kind of look like that's what is being pushed for. I like having the option to play these on all systems even though I own all the systems I love especially the options to play games on the switch.

Sony buying Square Enix would be great for Square Enix. They have a long history of a great relationship.
