Modes Explained [The Easiest, Fastest Way To Learn Modes On Guitar]

Показать описание
In this video, you learn all about the modes of the major scale on guitar.

Modes are notorious for being complicated and hard to understand, and with all the different approaches and methods out there this is not surprising.

In this lesson, you get a basic overview, an introduction if you like, to modes.

What’s important here is that you listen to the sound of each mode as I take you through them.

Trying to intellectualise the modes and focus only on the theory is incomplete and will leave you frustrated and confused.

You will learn each mode of the major scale, how it sounds, plus some of the progressions that can be derived and created from each mode.

Thank you. i have been trying to understand modes for a while now but now that I know that they must be used in context to the chord progression it makes sense. When your head is focused on the wrong approach it is often hard to see the simplicity of the solution. Your a legend mate 😉👍 Cheers

Thanks, Simon! For years, I could never quite get a grip on modes. This helps a lot.

Yes please do the next video because I memorized all the modes of the major scale during covid . But not the chords to go with them.

As is usual with Simon's explanations, this explanation of modes is really illuminating. I'd love to watch Simon's more detailed videos on each of the modes.

The clearest explanation of modes I’ve come across. Great teaching from a true professional. Can’t wait for the individual lessons on modes. Thanks Simon for your generosity of spirit. You need to know, this is game changing for a lot of us who have looked at inferior explanations.

Excellent lesson man. You nailed it. Probably seen 500 videos I'm exaggerating but I've seen many many videos on the modes you were like the best one to explain it clearly!!! After all these videos I've watched I was kind of getting to this knowledge before I saw your video but you just put an explanation point on it in a great way to show it on one string, just really illustrating it quite well. I'm finally getting really clear on it. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to learn it and memorize it really well scales are easy to memorize because theyre shapes. However modes is just really more knowing the notes the chord tones within those shapes

This is my first introduction to modes. I had no clue what they were before. However, the sound of each mode is certainly familiar. I love that you emphasize just listening to them to get familiar with the sound rather than worry about the theory behind it (which, of course, is helpful, also). It was also helpful how you compared a mode to a certain sound or style of music, e.g., Spanish, Blues, etc. I never would have guessed all those sounds (modes) come from the C Major scale.

Sin duda el mejor método para entender los modos. Dm puede ser aeolian en F y Phrygian en Bb. Sobre el mismo acorde el sonido cambia totalmente. Misterio resuelto! Excelente trabajo. Muchas gracias!

I appreciate this video with your emphasis on what each mode sounds like. I have never seen the modes explained by going up and down horizontally on a single string before. All the videos on modes I have seen have shown them vertically across the neck using all 6 strings in a box pattern.
I would like to see a video explaining the theory behind the modes and videos with each video covering one mode . Thank you.

I would love a video that shows where some of these modes appear or are used in popular songs or tunes we probably know. For example, I am pretty sure I heard “Wayfaring Stranger” in one of those modes. Thanks.

Hey, nice video . I thought you were going to demonstrate all the mode starting on c for contrast . Most piano videos leave us with the impression that modes start on specific white keys . The crucial thing is the sequence of intervals . Modes on piano are taught in a way that makes it more confusing . What I did like is your emphasis on the sound or mood of the mode. I thought I cracked D Dorian for live playing and then someone played a tune in E Dorian and I was lost! As far as I know no one has demoed the modes starting on same home key….. they all ( mostly piano) use different white keys . I still enjoyed the video … good work with backing drone tones .. cheers

I've already had expanations of modes and surprise, didn't understand any. This is closest, I like the listening to the sounds first method. Yes one lesson on each of the modes would be good (and a handy backing track?) Thanks.
