You know you've grown when you're watching Marty's theory lessons rather than his song lessons

Dude, Youtube really doesn't want youtube Guitar teachers to make money, everytime i watch a Marty video i get one of those ads that are like "have you ever tried to learn guitar on youtube, it sucks ass cuz youtube guitar lessons blow bro" or something like that.

Ive tried to understand videos similar to this in the past and failed, but it couldn't have come at a more perfect time, I was finally ready to understand this and Dr. Marty came through once again!

Thank you Marty. I've been playing guitar for 40 plus years, mostly Rhythm with a few self taught, thru observation riffs. I've reached the point where I must learn basic scales to move on and add some spice to my playing. This video has gotten me started to learn basic scales to practice and hopefully I can move on from there. Keep on Jamming and teaching. And THANK YOU SOOO MUCH.

Finally, a clear & easy-to-understand explanation of how to get started with modes. I've watched other videos, but they try to put too much information out all at once. Of course, those videos aren't necessarily bad because of this, but I feel a lot of players want to take it in smaller bites. I like how you keep a slow pace with each bit of info getting enough time for the viewer to let it sink in, before you go on to more info. I've played a long time, & have stumbled into some accidental modal playing at various times, but I knew I'd only scratched the surface, & worse, I felt like I didn't really know WTF I was doing. Your video felt to me like a great place to get started, and now some of the info in other videos makes more sense. Thanks, I liked & subscribed.

Thanks Marty! I’ve tried to understand modes in a number of occasions and I’ve never quite got it, but this was very helpful for me. Would love more lessons on modes and how to make music using them.

I would love to get more on modes. You have a great way of explaining music theory, if you could compile into a set of videos or even pay content I think you’d get a big turn out. Thanks again for all you do Marty!

Modes are still fun to play, and have many purposes! Really great to find easier ways to keep engaged with them!

Wow that actually helped. For a minute I was thinking it can’t be this simple and complex at the same time haha but it really is and really isn’t. You were using G Ionian for all the chords played but because you were changing the chord and the starting and ending note the mode was being played on it changed the whole sound. I can’t believe how simple it was. It goes to show that it’s the chords being played and the tonal center that dictates the mode that works best.

I literally learned more about modes in the last 15 minutes than I have been able to in the last 15 years. Anyone else who has played as long as I have know what it feels like to break a plateau in learning. Thank you for that. That being said, I would love to see a follow up on mode application in different genres.

I've been trying to wrap my head around modes for so long but this just made so many things click, holy shit, thank you so much, Marty!

I’ve been dabbling in guitar for awhile now, and I’ve heard the concept of modes being based off the major scale but beyond that fact it all seemed like some nebulous cloud. That is, until I watched this video. I finally just had that light bulb moment in the land of music theory! Thanks for the video.

The best instructional video I've seen so far about explaining the modes. I've been struggling with it for yrs. That's put it down perfectly 🥰 great job marty. 👏

This was great Marty! I definitely would like to see more of these. The modes are great but like you said it’s a process to be able to understand them. It is helpful for me to see someone playing each scale over the corresponding chord.

Marty, yes I am digging it. I like that this is a chunk not a whole buffet of modes. It is much easier to assimilate and digest in smaller portions. Thank you.
