I literally did the same thing last year, I figured since all these modern jump starters use lithium batteries the same exact ones from the drill batteries that it would work and it did and I also realized how badly they hustle you by selling their jump starters

A few things to be noted about this from a hobby electrical guy and full time diesel tech:

Jump starters have diode packs to prevent back-charging the battery once the vehicle is running, not having this is a bad situation waiting to happen.

Although the batteries are "capable" of moving the amerage needed for a jump start, most of the surrounding hardware isn't, that wire included. Most jump packs have smaller wires because of the way they scale voltage to lower amperage (similar to the same way powerlines are capable of carrying power supply to several houses, but not at 120v).

The temp sense on most battery powered tools is handled by the tool itself, not the battery. If you bypass the tool function, the temp switch no longer functions. This, once again, creates a dangerous situation.



The thought process is neat, but I don't want anyone hurt my a 20v battery popping in their face. Proceed with caution.

You realize that a car battery is 12v, charged by a 14v alternator and 18v drill batteries are up to 21v right? Do this on the wrong car and fry it’s electronics.

Don't do this, yes you can start a car with a rechargeable batteries as I did a couple of years ago, my battery was a 18volt 5ah lithium battery and just brought these original ones and killed a few of the cells, good news his I could replace these but some people can't and I won't be wasting my time again at doing this regards colin from croydon surrey 😧
