I was just in my kitchen putting preserves on my toast and I thought, "what kind of cookie can I make with this?" Thank you!

John, all of your videos are the best therapy for me. I just made your pastry cream that you made awhile back, and it was pure heaven. ❤

I’ve made this recipe twice so far - first time measuring everything in volume and the second - using a scale. Measuring in volume gave me a dough which looked very much like sand - definitely too dry, so I added a bit of milk and the recipe turned out to be OK still. But the second time I used a scale, and the dough turned out EXACTLY like John’s. So I beg you, fellow home bakers - go and get the scale if you still don’t have one! Invaluable tool!
The recipe itself is amazing - the cookies are sooo delicious and easy to make (although a bit time consuming, but it’s worth it). Thank you, John!

My grandmother used to make these for holidays. She called them “Tum cookies” ‘cause she couldn’t say “Thumb”. She would roll the balls of dough in granulated sugar and finely chopped pecans and then make the thumbprint. She used raspberry jelly. They were my favorites but the recipe died with her 😔. Now, I have yours which is essentially the same. Thanks, John

I just made a couple batches of these and the flavor is so delicate and delicious!
My first batch kept cracking and I couldn’t fix them. I went wrong by making them too big, fixed the second batch by adding a few table spoons of warm half and half (that’s all the real milk I have 😂) and they came out PERFECT!

My mom made these with chopped pecans and chocolate frosting. She rolled the dough in the nuts before baking and it was my job to put the thumbprint in. We also used colored frosting depending on the occasion. Now I’m hungry!!

This is a family favorite! We follow an old recipe called Austrian Jam Cookies. We always use seedless blackberry or Seedless Black Raspberry and we use the beaten egg white to roll the dough in, then roll them in chopped walnuts! Absolutely delicious! Your recipe and ours are very similar with a couple of differences in measurements!

When I make my thumbprint cookies, I use the pointed end of an egg, dipped in powdered sugar to make the circular indent. Works wonderfully and quickly.

I have a blower/vacuum made for cleaning electronics that I use to blow out flour from the motor of my stand mixer. I also use it for my hand mixer, microwave, toaster, waffle maker, food processor etc. This seriously extends the life of the appliances.

I make these every year, but use Almond extract instead of vanilla. Usually use raspberry or apricot jam. To finish I use a light dusting of powdered sugar. Thank you for another wonderful video.

My Nanna just passed away. She was a terrible cook, but the one thing she could bake were what we in Australia call Jam Drops. Ie, these cookies! Always a winner and so cute. I'll look forward to a jam drop and a cup of tea with her in heaven. Thank you for sharing your recipe :-)

Thank you for using weight measurements!! It saves so much time and makes things easier. I can never measure my flour accurately in cups.
