I love this intimate performance with just Neil & his guitar (harmonica). He was only 27 when he recorded this song as a young man. Now he is an older man at 78 years old. Neil is a very talented musician, singer & songwriter. He was with the groups Buffalo Springfield & Crosby, Stills & Nash in the later 60's. Also had his own group with Crazy Horse for a few years. Neil went solo & has had so many great songs over the years. The albums "After The Gold Rush" & "Harvest" from the 70's are considered 2 of his best.

Neil Young is a rabbit hole in and among himself. Lots of solo music, and iconic music with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. It'll take you years.

It's like an MTV Unplugged show from the early '70's. Yes, he has a #1 hit: "Heart Of Gold."

As others have said he was in the group Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (sometimes referred to as CSNY). Before he joined, the group was Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN). All four had been in other successful bands before they got together. They had great harmonies and were very popular. Two of my favorites of theirs are “Southern Cross” and “Teach Your Children”. I highly recommend both.

Neil Young had a song, “Southern Man”, which was critical of the South because of slavery and racism. Lynyrd Skynyrd resented the implication that all southerners were guilty. Their iconic song “Sweet Home Alabama” has the lines, “Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her/Well, I heard ol’ Neil put her down/Well, I hope Neil Young will remember/A Southern man don’t need him around anyhow.” In his 2012 autobiography Neil Young admitted he deserved their criticism and he regrets the “accusatory and condescending” lyrics. BTW, I’m sure you’ve heard at least part of “Sweet Home Alabama” but if you’ve never really listened to the whole song it would be a great one to react to.

True story. 1983 in a music venue in West Hollywood, California to see Tom Waits. Small intimate place that holds about 200 people. Tom is a few songs in and says a friend of his in the audience and is going to come up. This guy walks down the aisle I’m in, I turn around and it’s Neil Young and he hands me the joint he was smoking. 👍😎
