Been watching the videos and appreciating the tutorials!

Any tips on reverse painting? I’ve had successful prints where I brayer a layer of acrylics on after, but the reverse painted stuff I do seems to be so thick and impressionistic looking I lose so much detail of the original layer. And what role does the transfer layer play?
