Seymour Duncan Pickups: Hot P-90

Steve Booke demonstrates the versatility of the Seymour Duncan Hot P-90 pickups.

Our Hot P90 soapbar pickups combine extra coil windings with two small ceramic bar magnets to give you more output, greater sustain, and more overall sensitivity. Both the neck and bridge models have a pronounced upper midrange that will make chords sound mean and full, and solos sound fat and cutting.

Nothing better than the sound of Seymour Duncan Pickups ! I use a Hot P-90 in the bridge position
and a Vintage P-90 in the neck of my MJ GrooveMaster, a match made in tone heaven...….Duncan is my voice !

So epic! 0:45 was such a Smashing Pumpkins-like solo. Sounds like "Rhinoceros"

The neck pickup might be a little too hot by the looks of it 😉

These pickups sound sick!!! Very very dirty when they need to be, and I wanna hear them in a stoner rock set up!!  Great player in the video btw!!!

Love the distorted tones. Didn't care for the clean tones. Great playing.

That neck pickup is really screwed down low. Below the surface of the top. To boomy?

I keep expecting Eddie Veder's signature gravel voice to kick in. I need one of these for my Les Paul.

That Neck pick-up is sunk in the top a bit drastically ... Maybe too hot? Sounded a bit thin on the clean demo, but I suspect because it's sunk into the top a bit drastically? Most likely the compromise for a "Too" hot P-90? ... Of course, there are a ton of ways to set these up to personal taste with things like Orange caps, Bumble Bees and the such. I like 90s wrapped in Mahogany and Maple, like a Les Paul body. The thicker the better I say, give me a 9&1/2lbs non-chambered, Old school custom any day!

There's nothing like Duncan Tone man!! Seymour has been voicing tone for Icons since the beginning, His work with P-90s is awesome and always on point. Some of the innovations they've done with them are otherworldly, like the P-rails for instance, friggin' awesome little tools right there. To me it doesn't matter which way you go with these, the hot's or passives, they're always, deep, spanky and, crisp! It all comes down to what you want to do with them and a little imagination goes a long way in set-up, there's nothing that can't be jammed through a decent instrument cable with a little patience and love. At least that's something I've learned from playing around with Seymour Duncan pick-ups.
