In a dump truck I always just forced the starter to push the engine to start. Put it into first and then let it go and it slowly pushes it self to turn over. Worked like a charm

as other mentioned, better use 2nd gear. And one note, if battery is complete dead it will not work. Must have at least some juice inside, at least that control lamps lit.

you can just get out the car and put in neutral. open the door and push the car by the door. get in when you have speed put in 2nd gear and release the clutch quickly and push it back. at the same time give it a little gas + turn the key in case your starter has a little juice left in it. then the engine! (not car!) will start. the car may recharge depending on the state of your alternator and battery. if not you will not see RPM/KMH/etc. and will have to drive by feel. this the way may dad teach me.

Some other methods if you are by yourself: Put it in 4th and start pushing. The car will lurch and buck until you can jump in and hit the clutch. The second one is a variation of the first method and for open differntials. Jack up a drive wheel and spin the tire by hand.

This was the first thing my dad taught me after I learned how to drive. But we use 2nd gear instead.

The higher your gear, the more mechanical advantage your wheels have. If you have a friend pushing, start in second or third. If you're pushing it yourself, start in fourth or fifth because you'll lose speed jumping in the car and getting on the pedals.

litteraly had to do this so many times, my t4 turns 30 next year, and the battery and power system isnt holding up as well as it used to. Sometimes the engine stalls and i have to bump her otherwise, she doesnt even make a sound

I tried that on my s10 and it started for May 1-2 seconds and it then shut down and started flashing a security light but once I charged the batt it started back up so I guess I can’t pop start my truck
