👇🏼 Drop your story below if you landed a data job without a degree.

So many great lessons to be taken from the shared stories, so thanks to everyone who has been commenting on it! 🙌🏼🙏🏼

Same here that happened to me. I also didn't have any college degree. I started out as an entry level operations specialist where I had the time to look into one of Uber's learning programs specifically SQL. After finishing the SQL learning program, I began creating my own queries and got promoted as a junior data analyst. Then other opportunities came and then I landed more higher job positions. Now I'm the head of data analytics for an ecommerce company.

I'm sort of giving up looking for a job for a while. Now I'm enrolled in AWS/restart to enhance my current sets of skills with some cloud stuffs.

Other than degrees or no degrees I think age matters a lot too. I was once scheduled for an interview, but then it was suddenly cancelled because I was too old.

Im currently building my data and tech skills as I aspire to become a Data Analyst. I strongly believe as long as one has the passion and goal, nothing is impossible. Like Jordon, i find every possible ways to showcase my dashboard skills with initiative at work. This video is inspirational for someone with no degree. Thanks Luke!

I’m a female BI Analyst and while I do have a bachelor’s degree, it is not directly related to what I do. My degree is in Finance and I was hired on as a financial analyst that turned out to have a lot of data analyst’s duties. I got the job with help from one SQL class I took during my undergrad and fell in love with data/BI analysis at that job. I honed my SQL, excel, and database skills, and started a master’s program in data analytics to better align my education with my career.

I am a 19 year old girl that is studying Data Analytics through the google certificate and other certificates hoping to land a job and start my career without a degree. Once I make it, I can tell you about my story.

This should be less about being college degree versus no college degree, but rather about whether you have something to prove your capability or not. As interviewees made it clear, they did go through difficulties without college degrees. Let's not look away from it and accept it as it is. But it is not impossible to land a data job without a degree IF, you can showcase something that can make up for not having a degree. 1:43 This guy was in the military for 6 years, this 2:00 guy actually some work experience, and 2:06 took the chance to study computer science in a that is not in his native language, English, AND took time to complete Goolge Data Analytics Certificate.

The bottom line is, if you already have a college degree, great. You are less likely to be filtered out from the get go. So, spare the rest of your time to really work on a project and archive it well to be able to show it to your prospective employer. If you don't have a college degree, be aware that you may be rejected from the beginning. But don't let that reality become an excuse for you to not try. Keep track of all of your activities related to data science, until you encounter an employer who will appreciate your work thus far.

You don't know how much I needed this video. I have a degree and even Google Data Analytics certificate but I've been struggling to land my fisrt job as Data Analyst, I think that is due to my lack of experience. I hope to get my first job soon. Thank you.

I have a degree that has nothing to do with CS or IT whatsoever and after consistently posting my accomplishments and milestones on LinkedIn from all the coursera and udemy courses I'm taking I was able to land an interview for a BI analyst position. This was out of nowhere too, a recruiter found my page and saw me regularly posting, I didn't even finish my Google Data Analytics certificate at the time she contacted me. I'm currently going into the second round of interviews so its too early to say if I get the job or not but I will say that the hiring manager (who is also the CIO of the company) really appreciated my enthusiasm and willingness to learn topics like SQL and data visualization with Tableau. He was impressed that Im putting in the hard work and even attending in-person conferences to make up for not having a CS or IT degree. My second interview should be around two weeks from now so I'm hoping for the best!

I suppose it all boils down to a person's enthusiasm because anything is possible nowadays with a little assistance from the internet. There are people who have taught themselves complex skills solely on the basis of interest and internet references.

I was given a shot as an Assistant Analyst 18 months ago because of my demonstrated Excel skills in a different role in another department with my company. I was told I needed to learn SQL and Power BI for the role. I immersed myself in SQL, Power Query, Power Pivot, & Power BI and have surpassed everyone in my department in knowledge and skills. The person who hired me has since left the company for greener pastures and I was told by the new management there are no opportunities for advancement unless someone leaves the company and I get a degree. Now I find myself looking for opportunities elsewhere and the lack of a degree has kept a lot of doors closed. The people I work with all have degrees, but their skills are obsolete. They want to stick with Excel and they want me to dumb down my work because they are unable to troubleshoot "if" they get an error. I got a lot of great tips from this video and it gives me hope. 😃YouTube & LinkedIn Learning have been my go to resources and I use Notion to keep notes on all the videos that have given me breakthroughs and have built my own quick reference library.

I got a degree in business admin. And found out I enjoy analyzing data and just got a job as a supply chain analyist. The company only uses excel at the moment but I am going to change that as I learn sql and otuer programs.

Hi Luke, Thanks for sharing this video.

I hold a masters degree in computer science (6 years back) and completed Google data analytics certification last year in June.
I have been applying for entry level jobs since 6 months but haven't gotten any yet 😐
I believe I am proficient in Advance MS Excel, SQL, Tableau visualizations. Currently working on Power BI data analyst(PL 300) certification course.
I wish I could share my success story one day.

Maybe I'll comment later on, but I'm currently taking the Google Data Analytics certification thanks to you and Alex the analyst. BUT, there might be some opportunities opening up because of the networking I'm doing with some friends in the field. One who actually doesn't have a degree related to data.
