At Walking The Text, we believe that context changes everything, and with so many Study Bibles out there to choose from, we know it can be hard to find one that helps you understand the Bible in its original context.

That’s why one of the two Study Bibles we recommend is the NIV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible - other translations are available as well (the other Study Bible we recommend is the ESV Archaeology). The NIV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible takes the best of current cultural background studies and includes them in over 10,000 notes as you make your way through your study of God’s Word.

I've been using this Bible for personal study ever since it was published. It's like a diamond mine. It just keeps surprising me with priceless insight. Best study Bible to appear since the original NIV Study Bible from Zondervan in the 1980s. Thanks, Brad!

I use it all the time. At times, it compares Christianity to some pagan religions of that time, but overall, I learned a ton of stuff from it. Of course with any study Bible, never take the notes as more authority than the Text Itself, especially if you can read the Hebrew and Greek Text and some Aramaic.

Since Craig Keener and J. Walton are the Authors of this Cultural Backgrounds SB and of the IVP Bible Background Commentary as i already have the IVP Commentary of them....that means that I already have all or maybe even more of the study notes that are in the Cultural Backgrounds SB ??

How about the NRSV Cultural Background Study Bible or the NKJV compared to the one you suggested? They are by the same editors but were published later than the 2016 NIV edition in 2019 and 2017, respectively. Thank you

Although no translation is perfect, the NIV is not one of the best. Look up Acts 8:37 in the NIV then look at a better translation to see a good example as to why. If this is not an option, the NIV omits this verse and it is just one of many grievous errors and omissions.
