"And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." (Quran 24:22)

I really like Sheikh Assim - when I don’t know something I listen to what he has to say and try to implement it. May Allah SWT grant you Jannat Ul Firdaus Sheikh Assim.

I believe this will serve as a deterrent. As a public figure, his image and reputation is very important to him and saying something like this, people will at least think twice before they make libelous or harmful backbiting statements against him.

Wait... This is the only video that he left the comment section on 😅

Absolutely sheikh you have a right to do such a thing. However, is there no argument to be made to be merciful to others as per the hadith " That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: He who shows no mercy to the people, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, does not show mercy to him." Sahih Muslim 2319a. Jazakallahu khairan

Most people don't understand the true lesson here. When you cause such a huge harm by backbiting someone, ruining their reputation and also effectively turning weaker Muslims away from seeking correct knowledge of Islam, this isn't something small. The Sheikh already said he doesn't hold a grudge against anyone. It is not pride or even hatred. It is a lesson. Even Islam doesn't allow forgiving over and over again otherwise some people don't change their nature. If they get forgiveness for some huge crime easily, if they're of a weak Imaan, they're going to think oh it was too easy and not change. People need to learn when and where the hadith about forgiveness and mercy applies in our lives. I heard from another Sheikh myself a while ago that it's not good to keep forgiving people, especially those who cause you harm and one of the worst kinds of harm someone can cause you is backbiting you and possibly ruining your reputation. Forgive once, okay, but if they keep doing it, stop forgiving them. This doesn't mean hate them, be petty, don't say salaam or be bitter towards them, no. Be kind to them, but don't forgive their actions so they learn the lessons the hard way because some people do not change no matter how much ALLAH punishes them.

I read the comments and see how divided we are on the Sheikh's stand on this issue. May Allah grant His Mercy and Forgiveness on all of us.

Let us not talk bad about the sheikh here in the comments, i think most of his videos have the comments turned off. Except this one, so let us not partake in the sin of backbiting by talking about the sheikh in a negative light, may Allah SWT grant the sheikh, his family, everyone here and their families along with me and mine Jannatul Firdaus, and may He make us neighbors of the prophet pbuh ❤

It is important to forgive someone who wronged you and it can be done if you always have the intention of doing it for the sake of Allah. Forgiving someone doesn’t necessarily mean that you become friendly with the person or act like what they did to you never happened. You can still be disappointed in them.

My brothers in Islam, there is a difference between people like Sheikh and Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Prophet (SAW) is guaranteed paradise, but we aren't. The sheikh wants and needs what's best for him in the akhirah, just as we all do, and just as we all will on Yawmul Qiyamah (ie. The Day of Judgement).

Thank you for talking your time to read this, may Allah make it easy for all of us. Ameen 🤲

Sheikh is right in what he's saying. There are many people who have this habit of backbiting someone eventhough they realise that they are doing a sin, then asking for forgiveness and then after that turning to the same sin. We need to change our attitude towards sins. Once you ask for forgiveness from Allah, it is incumbent upon us to rectify our ways and avoid that sin in the future. May Allah forgive us

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was seated in a gathering with the sahabah (his companions) when he looked towards the entrance and said, “A man of Paradise is coming.” At that instance someone who seemed to be very ordinary entered the masjid where they were seated. One sahabi was curious as to why the Prophet had said such a thing about this man, so he followed the man to his house. The sahabi told the man of Paradise that he was a traveler, and was invited to stay as a guest. For three days the sahabi watched the man of Paradise, but he saw nothing unusual in the man’s character or worship. Finally he told the man what the Prophet had said and asked him what was so special about him. The man thought for a long time and said, “There might be one thing — before going to sleep every night I forgive everyone and sleep with a clean heart.”

Example from the life of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

The Prophet was all for forgiveness and no amount of crime or aggression against him was too great to be forgiven by him. He was the complete example of forgiveness and kindness, as mentioned in the following verse of the Quran:

“Keep to forgiveness (O Muhammad), and enjoin kindness, and turn away from the ignorant.” (Quran 7:199)
A powerful Hadith which shows the mercy of Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wa sallam)

For the preaching of Islam, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) went to the city of Ta’if and offered them to accept the religion of Allah Almighty. But the leaders of Ta’if rejected to accept Islam and stirred up some gangs of the town to harm him (PBUH). They followed Holy Prophet (PBUH) shouting at him, abusing him and even started throwing stones on him until he (PBUH) became injured. Even at that situation, Holy Prophet (PBUH) did not say anything wrong to them and prayed for them in these words:

“O Allah Almighty, to You I complain of my weakness, lack of resources and humiliation before these people. You are the Most Merciful, the Lord of the weak and my Master. To whom will You consign me? To one estranged, bearing ill will, or an enemy given power over me? If You do not assign me any worth, I care not, for Your favor is abundant upon me. I seek refuge in the light of Your countenance by which all darkness is dispelled and every affair of this world and the next is set right, lest Thy anger should descend upon me or Your displeasure light upon me. I need only Your pleasure and satisfaction for only You enable me to do good and evade the evil. There is no power and no might but You.”

May Allah guide us all, don't backbite him here too, he's scholar and deserves to be treated with total respect.

Sadly before the scholars were highly respected for delievering knowledge and educating people but now they are treated like trash.

SubhanAllah.

I may not always agree with this man but he speaks the truth I'll give him that. If he doesn't have any ill feelings towards anyone then he is a greater man than me on that respect.
